English Tuition & Enrichment School

By putting young children's language learning pathways at its heart, Writers Studio School of English focuses on language learning as a continuous process, ranging from the use of fundamental to increasingly complex language. We diagnose our students' language proficiency throughout their learning and recommend the most suitable language learning pathway, matching them to suitable teachers within our centre for the best outcome.

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ Happy National Day!

As we celebrate Singapore’s National Day, this week also marks a meaningful pause amidst a busy season β€” especially for our students preparing for the upcoming PSLE Oral Examinations.

There are also some exciting things taking shape at our centres, including something special we have planned for the September holidays. We’ll share more when the time is right, so stay tuned!

For now, we hope everyone takes this opportunity to slow down, recharge and enjoy the break with family and loved ones.

To all our students and families, have a restful National Day break and come back refreshed for the journey ahead.

Does your child have great ideas but struggle to put them into words?

At Writers Studio, we help children unpack the skills behind MOE's English curriculum, building results that last.

Rather than memorising model essays, children learn how to:
πŸ“– Read with understanding, not just fluency.
πŸ’ Organise and develop their ideas.
✍️ Plan, draft, revise and refine their writing.
πŸ—£οΈ Build vocabulary through meaningful exposure.
🌱 Express themselves more originally and effectively in the exams.

Designed for learners from K2 to Secondary 4, our programmes grow with your child through every stage of their writing journey.

With several distinctive writing programmes, each featuring carefully curated writing themes and age-appropriate learning experiences, students develop stronger writing foundations while working on oral and the critical components in the English language paper.

Every lesson is thoughtfully delivered in our newly renovated branch at Kovan, where small class sizes create a warm, engaging environment for personalised learning.

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ Celebrate Singapore's 61st National Day with us! Enjoy $61 OFF first-term fees for new enrolments at our new Kovan centre for a limited time.

Writers Studio's PSLE Intensive Paper 1 and 2 course is designed specifically for Primary 6 students who need focused practice in the examinable components of English Paper 1 and Paper 2. Rather than introducing new content, each lesson reinforces essential skills through structured exam drills, strategic revision and immediate teacher feedback.

The programme focuses on helping students:
Strengthen their understanding of common PSLE question types.
Improve answering techniques through guided practice.
Develop better time management during examinations.
Identify and correct recurring mistakes with personalised feedback.
Build confidence through consistent exposure to exam-style questions.

One of the strengths of this programme is that it complements, rather than replaces, a student's existing learning. The lessons are structured to provide intensive revision without overwhelming students or disrupting their regular tuition schedule, making it suitable for families looking for focused support during the crucial months before the PSLE.

For parents seeking a practical and structured revision programme, the PSLE Drill Intensive Course offers an opportunity for children to consolidate what they have learnt and strengthen weaker areas.

Your child may be practising... but are they improving? Are the recent Prelim Oral results showing?

Practice alone does not necessarily lead to improvement. Students often continue to repeat the same mistakes because the underlying weaknesses in their oral performance have not been identified.

Research in education consistently shows that timely, specific and actionable feedback is one of the most effective factors influencing student achievement. Rather than simply telling students what to say, effective teaching involves diagnosing individual learning gaps and providing targeted strategies to address them.
At our PSLE MasterClasses, we adopt this personalised approach.

Our programme focuses on:

β€’ Diagnostic feedback that identifies each student's strengths and areas for improvement.
β€’ Current and relevant oral materials with spotted topics designed around contemporary issues and examination trends.
β€’ Explicit instruction in idea development, vocabulary, organisation, and response techniques.
β€’ Onsite coaching that allows teachers to observe, analyse, and provide individualised guidance.

Every lesson is carefully structured to help students understand not only what to improve, but also how to improve.
Sometimes, meaningful progress comes not from completing more oral practices, but from receiving the right diagnosis and targeted intervention at the right time.

πŸ“… Final PSLE Oral MasterClasses run until 12 August.

In the early primary years, children are developing the fundamental skills that will shape their writing for years to come. If they are unable to construct clear, complete and meaningful sentences, they are likely to find composition writing increasingly challenging as they progress through school.

A sentence is more than just a group of words. It is a complete thought. Children need to learn how to organise their ideas, apply grammar accurately, use correct punctuation, and choose vocabulary that communicates meaning clearly. These skills cannot be developed overnight.

Many P1 and P2 students face common challenges such as:

β€’ Writing short, repetitive sentences.
β€’ Forgetting capital letters or punctuation.
β€’ Using the same simple words repeatedly.
β€’ Finding it difficult to explain their ideas in detail.
β€’ Writing disconnected sentences that do not flow logically.

While these are common for young learners, they should not become long-term habits. Without a strong foundation, children often spend the later primary years trying to correct weaknesses that could have been addressed much earlier.

Writers Studio's Starbright (P1–P2) Programme is thoughtfully designed to strengthen the essential writing skills that prepare children for success in composition writing.

πŸŽ‰ πŸ“š Student Rewards Just Got Better!

This August, our student rewards are getting an exciting educational upgrade!
Our students' hard work in class can now help them build their very own home library. Instead of redeeming regular rewards, they can use their WS Dollars to choose from a selection of carefully curated books to take home and keep.

Every book your child redeems is more than just a rewardβ€”it is an investment in their learning. Regular reading expands vocabulary, broadens knowledge, nurtures imagination and develops stronger readers and more confident writers.

🌟 Learn. Earn. Read. Repeat!
Continue encouraging your child to participate actively in class, demonstrate a positive attitude and always give their best. Every WS Dollar earned brings them one step closer to adding another book to their personal library.

Because the best rewards are the ones that inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning. Happy reading! πŸ“–βœ¨

Prepositions may be small, but they make a big difference.

Do you say:
interested in
good at
afraid of
responsible for

These are called prepositional collocations, natural word combinations that are tested in school.

Try this quiz for quick revision, and think about which prepositional collocation you find the most confusing.

17/07/2026

Prepositional complementation is arguably one of the hardest areas of English grammar because it is governed more by lexical convention than by logical rules.

In other words, we must know which preposition a particular word selects, and there is often no reliable rule for predicting it!

It is based on collocation, not logic.

Think about this.
Why do we say good at but interested in?

There is no grammatical rule that explains why one adjective takes at and another takes in. These combinations have become fixed through usage.

Examples:

β€’ good at Maths
β€’ interested in science
β€’ afraid of spiders
β€’ proud of her son
β€’ responsible for the project

Each adjective has its own preferred preposition.

It is important to prepare for these types of examination questions, as they can be tested.
