DSA results are out. Got both a CO and a WL?

* CO = Confirmed Offer
* WL = Wait List

Key tip:
* If you prefer the WL school, put the WL as 1st choice and your CO as 2nd choice.
* Putting a WL before a CO does NOT weaken your CO offer.
* As long as you list your CO, it remains your secured fallback.

If all your results are WL only:
* Rank the schools in your true order of preference.
* Put the school you want most as 1st choice, then 2nd, then 3rd.
* This does not move you up any school’s waitlist — each school already has its own internal WL order.

Important reminder:
Rank schools in your true order of preference — not based on fear of “losing” a CO.

After the US Top 20, the school-name advantage drops fast. The difference between rank #30 and #100+ may matter far less than you think.
Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor Auren Hoffman puts it bluntly: ranking only matters for the top 20. Beyond that, an expensive elite-signaling school holds almost no advantage over a strong state or public university — for jobs or prestige.

When should your child get a smartphone?
A recent Bloomberg article highlighted research suggesting age 13—at the earliest.
Interestingly, this is also consistent with what we heard from GATE parents whose children—many now GATE alumni—have grown into well-rounded young people.
Many waited until after PSLE, when their children entered secondary school, before giving them a smartphone.
So, for now, GATE’s view is that 13 may be the “magic age” to start.
This is our current perspective, not a fixed rule.

Gate Junior@Haw Par celebrated Singapore’s National Day with Singapore Red Cross ! ❤️🇸🇬

The children learned a National Day dance, packed goodie bags for the dedicated Red Cross volunteers and staff, and proudly marched from school to the Red Cross for a special tour.

It was a meaningful day of learning, gratitude, kindness, and community spirit. ❤️🤍

Which school did you guess?
Many parents assume it’s RI, HCI or ACS(I).

Here are a few interesting observation:
- SJI (IB) currently has the highest estimated 6-year fees.
- IB pathways generally cost more than traditional IP pathways.
- Specialised Independent Schools (SOTA, Sports School, NUS High) have a different funding model from mainstream IP schools.
- The fees shown are already heavily subsidised for Singapore Citizens. Comparable IB programmes at private international schools can cost 5–6 times more.

School fees are only one consideration.

The right-fit school depends on your child's:
- Academic strengths (STEM or humanities)
- Learning style (exam-based or project-based)
- University goals (local or overseas)

So where do good students come from?
Apart from those who are naturally talented,
most are the result of parents’ education.
