🤔 What happens when competition is taken out of the equation?

For Ghazali Muzakir (Ghaz), S*F’s new non-competitive Drama Category for Primary School Students offers an opportunity to rethink what success can look like in arts education. That said, he recognises that changing the format doesn’t necessarily change how children experience achievement, and that’s why as drama educators we need to continue to lead with intention.

From taking the stage as a student to adjudicating the next generation of young performers; it’s a full-circle moment for Luanne at this years Singapore Youth Festival (S*F). 🎭✨

As S*F celebrates its 60th year, the new Drama Category for Primary School Students is giving over 1,600 young artists across 60 schools the opportunity to find their voices, tell their stories and experience the joy of theatre.

👩🏻‍🏫✨ Impactful Learning through SINDA’s LYNN: We’re very happy to be back working with the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) on their Literacy & Numeracy Programme (LYNN). The programme helps children aged 5 to 6 prepare for Primary Education by building their confidence and foundational skills.

Since 2024, SDEA has proudly partnered with SINDA to bring these core learning concepts to life, utilising process-driven Drama for embodied learning. SINDA’s efforts to bring creative play to early childhood education perfectly align with SDEA’s mission of advocating for the practice and value of drama and theatre in education. SDEA will be hosting its 24th Annual General Meeting in-person on 16th September 2026, at 7pm.

All members are invited and encouraged to attend and take part in the AGM this year, hear from the committee elected in 2025, and discuss important matters and updates to the organisation.

What to look forward to:

✅ A look forward at upcoming SDEA programmes and initiatives

ETLA is a certification course provides you with fundamental pedagogical knowledge and skills to create meaningful and imaginative learning experiences for your students and participants (primary school level and above) with drama. Find out more here: bit.ly/etla_info

This course is recognised by the National Arts Council and satisfies the pedagogical requirement for arts instructors to conduct NAC-AEP Arts Experience programmes in Primary and Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, Centralised Institutes and ITE Regional Campuses.
