Raffles Hall There is never a dull moment in Raffles Hall. Many great leaders have stayed in Raffles Hall, including Professor Tommy Koh and Justice Tan Lee Meng.

A Hall steeped in 50 years of tradition and history inherited from the Oxford and Cambridge halls of residence, Raffles Hall is nestled in a green valley on Kent Ridge Crescent within NUS. Building upon the years since our establishment, the renovation plans in year 2009 and 2010 turned Raffles Hall into the residence with the newest rooms, toilets and other facilities on campus! The Hall offers a

host of opportunities to those interested in developing their potential, ranging from various sports to cultural activities such as our annual Hall musical, and to the media committees where you can hone your skills in photography, web development and writing talents. Raffles Hall is also a home for aspiring leaders, with furious races between residents striving for the prestigious leadership positions. Yet, when all is said and done, Raffles is more than a mere Hall of Residence. With a Master and Resident Fellows who truly care, and residents who are always willing to lend a helping hand, Raffles Hall with its spirit of togetherness, offers a home away from home to truly make your university experience complete! Raffles Hall was the one of the first halls to be established in the National University of Singapore (NUS). Founded in 1958, Raffles Hall was originally located in Nassim Road, Bukit Timah, but consequently moved to the current NUS campus at Kent Ridge in 1984, as Kent Ridge Hall and Sheares Hall were already on campus and the convenience of these new halls took its toll on the residential numbers in RH. Nassim could only hold 250-odd residents, and RH at its new site was almost twice that size. New kids on campus with nothing much to show, spurred on by the old and the new, dreamers and makers began to bud, setting in motion the cogs of our tradition and history...

Raffles Hall has its roots in Raffles College, which was one of the institutes of higher learning that merged to eventually form the National University of Singapore. Although "Raffles" is a common name for many institutions and organisations in Singapore, Raffles Hall is in no way affiliated to them.

NUS Raffles Hall students, staff and alumni coming together to make a difference!

Mr Leonard Tan, a Raffles Hall alumnus from the Faculty of Engineering, Class of 2018, said, “To our beneficiaries, it was a rare moment to enjoy the lively atmosphere and feel that connection with their community. It was really heartening to experience the joy of the seniors as we guided them through the walkathon and performances.”

Chong Yong Rui, a Year 2 student from the NUS School of Computing, also felt the event taught him to “empathise with the elderly more”

Raffles Hall Master Associate Professor Stella Tan lauded the increasing “attention now being paid to help the elderly in their golden years stay active and connected socially”.

The event was graced by Minister for Health and Advisor for Sembawang Central GROs, Mr Ong Ye Kung and NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology) Professor Chen Tsuhan.

After teaching musical production in NUS Raffles Hall and at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and learning from renowned music composer Prof CK HO for the past few years, I am proud to announce that we are bringing back our Raffles Hall Musical Production live on stage in less than 2 months!

Thank you to our long time friend Dr Ken Lyen for capturing this happy moment for us - for we will start full rehearsals from now. Grateful to Dr Lyen for guiding our original script and music. We are very honoured for Dr Lyen is a composer of our National Day songs.

Hot from the oven! NUS Raffles Hall 63rd Year Book for Academic Year 2021/22 has arrived. It’s so thick, you can’t believe we have achieved so much despite the challenging Covid times.

Let’s make more fond memories and continue to have a rich and vibrant student life in NUS in Academic Year 2022/23!

Thanks to outgoing 63rd JCRC Media Director Yuan Bing for sharing my dreams to capture beautiful memories with photographic evidence accompanied with good writing to document all the sweat and tears behind every successful event!
