Last Friday (31July) the Year 1-4 RAM members went to Triggered Games at Orchard Cineleisure for some midterm bonding activities. There, we played games ranging from Floor is Lava — where we rushed around avoiding red tiles and trying to score points by tapping blue ones — to Hexa Blasts, where we threw projectiles at a target in a set sequence! We had a whale of a time. 🐋

It was good fun interacting with my group, especially with the juniors. The Press It game helped to hone our teamwork as we took on different roles and responsibilities for the different games — at one point, I was blindfolded as Justin gave me instructions to press the necessary buttons. Meanwhile the Floor is Lava game was chaotic and exciting. I enjoyed the experience, and I feel many of the members did too!

All in all, I felt it was a good experience and a nice change from the regular club Friday sessions.

“… the Triggered Games was an extremely fun experience for me and allowed me to bond with my CCA mates through teamwork such as the basketball game that required us to launch the ball into the correct hoops together. This helped me enhance my communication skills with my cca mates, collaborating with them clearly to complete the task.”

📦 Shoebox Museum Presentation and Judging Sessions

At the start of Term 3, weeks 1 and 2, our Y1, Y2 and Y3 ASEAN Scholars had the opportunity to present their Shoebox Museum projects, showcasing their creative interpretations of different aspects of our school’s history!

Each shoebox was carefully researched and crafted to highlight a chosen part of Rafflesian history, from notable alumni to our former campuses. Students also had to come up with interesting and engaging ways to bring their research to life. Along the way, our scholars sharpened their research and presentation skills while discovering new ways to share Rafflesian history!

Finally, it was time for our juniors to showcase their presentation skills! They presented their shoeboxes and slides to a panel of judges—and they certainly did not disappoint! Each presentation demonstrated thoughtful and insightful research, impressive creativity and plenty of confidence.

Following a closely contested competition, Aydan Lee (2D) emerged on top with his shoebox museum exploring the history of the RI Military Band (RIMB)!

Once again, congratulations to all our winners, and well done to every participant for bringing our history to life through your creativity! A huge thank you also goes to our panel of judges for their thoughtful feedback and for making the judging session a meaningful learning experience for our participants!

🚇🌿 Yesterday afternoon, the Y14 RAM Club had the incredible opportunity to visit the CR202 Cross Island Line worksite for the second time — and it was once again an eye-opening experience!

During the tour, we learnt not only about the immense engineering challenges behind Singapore’s MRT system, but also the extensive efforts taken to protect the Central Catchment Nature Reserve area by Obayashi Singapore Pte Ltd for the CR202 Project. It was fascinating to hear how sensors are installed throughout the area to monitor animal behaviour and study the impact of construction on the surrounding ecosystem, ensuring that biodiversity is carefully protected throughout the project.

We also had the privilege of viewing the structural models of the various Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and tunnel schematics behind the massive underground works, giving us a glimpse into the hidden planning behind Singapore’s future Cross Island Line (CRL) infrastructure.

One of the most memorable moments was even getting to bring home a piece of Singapore’s hardest granite rock as a souvenir from the site! 🪨

A huge thank you to Mr Kevin Poh for hosting us once again and giving the Y14 RAM Club such a meaningful and unforgettable learning experience 🙌

Once again, the Raffles Archives and Museum opened its doors to the public during Raffles Institution’s annual Open House. This year, many of our junior members stepped up as docents, honing their public speaking skills while sharing their growing knowledge of the school’s rich history. They were guided and supported by our Year 3 and 4 senior members, who helped make this a meaningful and enriching experience.

The Open House provided valuable opportunities for our juniors to discover and showcase their talents — whether through acting in RAM’s skit on the founding of Raffles Institution, or by engaging visitors through storytelling and guided tours. It was also a fitting and heartwarming conclusion for our senior members as they wrapped up their journey on the Year 1-4 side.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed — from the students who dedicated long hours to content preparation and training, to the guests who took the time to listen and engage with our docents and performers.

We look forward to welcoming you again!

✨ Year 1–4 RAM Club Visit to EHL Campus Singapore ✨

Our RAM club members had the privilege of visiting the Singapore campus of EHL Hospitality Business School yesterday afternoon for a meaningful learning experience. This is the second time EHL has hosted us, though this visit involved our Year 1–4 members instead of Year 5–6 previously.

Members were introduced to EHL’s professional environment, where there is a strong emphasis on presentation, attention to detail, and maintaining a high standard in every interaction. One participant noted how “everyone was dressed quite formally… it was a bit overwhelming at first,” highlighting the importance of first impressions 👔✨

As part of the itinerary, members were also brought on a guided campus tour by the EHL student ambassadors, giving us a closer look at the learning spaces and student experience.

A key highlight of the visit was the Masterclass “From Ideas to Impact – Present with Confidence” by Ms. Yasmin Abdeen, where members learnt that effective communication requires intentionality—through tone, structure, and clarity. The idea that “one word, one smile, one gesture” can shape perception and open doors for opportunities, left a strong impression 💬🌟

Beyond this, the visit also offered insight into how hospitality relies heavily on human interaction and the ability to create meaningful experiences 🤝

On Wednesday, 22 April, Year 5–6 members of the Raffles Archives and Museum Club visited the CR202 Biodiversity Training Centre, where they were hosted by Mr Kelvin Poh, Assistant Environmental Manager with Obayashi Singapore Pte Ltd – Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore). The joint venture companies were awarded the CR202 contract, responsible for the construction of the 5km tunnel connecting the future Turf City station to the existing Bright Hill MRT station.

During a 2.5-hour session, Mr Poh shared valuable insights into the innovative—and literally groundbreaking—technology behind the construction of the 5km stretch of Cross Island Line, which runs beneath the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), Winsor Nature Park, and Peirce Secondary school, where stretches of tunnels could reach depths of up to 80 metres beneath the reserve.

Mr Poh also explained the extensive measures taken to minimise environmental impact, including careful planning, rigorous Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and the use of advanced tunnelling techniques to safeguard biodiversity while meeting construction needs.

The visit offered students a meaningful perspective on how Singapore balances national development with environmental conservation. It was especially eye-opening to see how technology can support not only efficiency but also a more harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

The Raffles Archives and Museum was honoured to host Professor Tommy Koh (Class of RI 1955 / 1957 (Pre-U)) for a special conversation, held in collaboration with the Old Rafflesians' Association as part of a new interview series capturing the personal stories of Rafflesians.

In this heartfelt and reflective conversation, Professor Koh shared memories of his time as a student, alongside invaluable insights and words of wisdom for RAM Y5–6 club members. He reflected on the evolution of RI’s values and culture, and shared his hopes for the school’s future. We are deeply grateful to Professor Koh for his time and generosity in sharing his story with us.

✨ Year 5–6 RAM Club Visit to EHL Campus Singapore ✨

Our RAM club members had the privilege of visiting the EHL Campus (Singapore) this morning for an enriching learning journey. The visit began with a warm welcome and introduction to EHL, followed by a lovely campus stroll and tea break.

A highlight of the visit was the Masterclass titled “From Ideas to Impact – Present with Confidence”, which the students found useful, enriching, and insightful. The interactive session guided them to see presentations not just as performances, but as purposeful acts of clear and structured communication.

🗣️ Here’s what some of our students had to say:
“A key takeaway for me was that impactful presentation is less about delivery alone and more about clarity of message, structure, and audience awareness. I also gained a deeper appreciation of EHL’s core values of excellence, professionalism, and innovation.”

“The excursion was uniquely interesting because EHL embodies a rich culture, and the tour offered valuable insights into how ethos, pathos, and logos can be used to create emotional impact in public speaking.”

The session concluded with a Business Case Competition Brief and a fond farewell – leaving everyone inspired by EHL’s dynamic learning environment and global network.
