🕊️ REPACKING OPS FOR GAZA

Hi everyone! Today is 🇺🇳

Relief Singapore's repacking operation will take place next week on Tuesday (June 24) at the Sia Huat warehouse at 20 Pandan Road.

25 pallets of relief items are to be unpacked, sorted out, and repacked for delivery to refugees in the Middle East. At this point in time, it is likely that this batch of relief goods will be sent to Egypt to be distributed to displaced Palestinians seeking refuge in its capital Cairo.

The Great Mosque is filled with sacred geometries of divine proportions, with a cube called the Ka'aba as its heart, with the congregation forming layers of circles around it five times each day for prayers 🤲🏽

While exploring the mosque, the 3 most common design families caught our founder's eyes: (1) 4-fold on wood, (2) 5-fold on marble and (3) 6-fold on metal. Inspired by what he saw, we would be collaborating with Al-Falah Mosque at Orchard (behind Apple Store) to offer a foundational class on Islamic Geometry. We would be doing 4-fold and 6-fold designs. We may offer an intermediate class on 5-fold design in the future for those who have completed this foundational class.

Interestingly, most of our learners are non-Muslims. Open to all faiths 🕊️

Years ago, Dr Abdullah Al Karam, the Director General of هيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية KHDA which is the equivalent of our Ministry of Education, Singapore, reached out via Facebook to visit the Kampung Kampus. Our late mentor Lai Hock and our founder Ibnur agreed to show him around.

After the tour, Ibnur asked how he came across the Kampung Kampus, and he shared that he searched on Google with the terms 'youth', 'environment' and 'wellbeing'. With bold confidence, he extended an invitation to explore a collaboration with Dubai 🕊️

We then designed an outdoor-based curriculum integrating STEM and the Arts, based on the wellbeing framework by the New Economics Foundation. Instead of doing our STEAM classes in the futuristic urban city of Dubai, we decided to bring students to experience the deserts, villages and mountains of Hatta on the outskirts of Dubai.

After conducting a series of outdoor classes, Lai Hock and Ibnur were then invited to share our tips and insights in a masterclass at a major teachers' conference on what works. Ibnur loves equations, so he shared his 'Learn Well' equation which simply states that: Nature + Community = Wellbeing. Indeed, the environment where we learn matters 🌳

We are very honoured and blessed to connect with entrepreneurs and ecosystem builders from Singapore and the Arab world. Our CEO Ibnur reconnected with a good partner of GUILD and fellow makerpreneur Robin from Factorem, a startup revolutionising the manufacturing industry. Well done on your emcee role, Robin! You did great!

We also connected with Haidar from Hasan VC, who has both European and Arab ancestries, with a great interest in supporting the growth of startups. We also exchanged about the future of innovation in the Islamic world beyond Arab ecosystems 🌙

Listening to an Arab Muslim woman share her entrepreneurial journey reminded us of Prophet Muhammad's wife, Khadijah, who was a very successful entrepreneur and philanthropist doing trade across long distances to faraway cities.

We look forward to more exchanges between the Nusantara and Arab regions of the Islamic world 🕊️

The future lies in culture. The progress of innovation and entrepreneurship lies in navigating cultural histories. Our founder Ibnur had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha during a global entrepreneurship conference.

He reconnected with his passion in Islamic Geometric Design as he got to connect with the actual historical artifacts from which he gained inspiration for his design lectures in Singapore 🇸🇬

Geometric design is second in the hierarchy of Islamic art, below Arabic calligraphy. And we can find them on different materials such as wood, marble and skin. With the new knowledge gained in Qatar, we will be running an Islamic Geometry class at Masjid Al-Falah on 22 Jun (Sun), 10.30am-1pm.
