A musical journey through Europe... right here at the Goethe Lab! ๐ŸŽถ

Last Sunday saw our students enjoying a special musical matinee, ๐—˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ (๐˜ˆ ๐˜”๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜‘๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜จ๐˜ฉ ๐˜Œ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ), at the Goethe Lab. Led by our German teacher (and talented clarinetist!) Ivan Ng, together with Clement Lim on flute and Jared Liew on piano, the trio took us on a journey through classical favourites and contemporary pieces.

And even more inspiringโ€”all three musicians studied in Germany and speak fluent German. If youโ€™ve wondered whether language learning can open doors, create lifelong friendships, and lead to unexpected opportunities, the answer is yes, yes, and yes! Learning a language is not just about words; itโ€™s also about exploring a new culture and connecting with people. ๐ŸŽผโค๏ธ

Meet Estelle, another receipient of our scholarship! ๐Ÿ‘ A teaching intern for History and Lower Secondary Music at a secondary school in Singapore, Estelle self-learnt German as a hobby for two years before joining classes at the Goethe-Institut this year. Through our scholarship, she took part in a two-week intensive course in Berlin in June.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Here's what she had to say about her experience:

"I am immensely grateful to the Goethe-Institut for granting me this invaluable opportunity. As an enthusiast of German classical music, literature, history, and politics, spending two weeks in Berlin for my Language Course Scholarship and visiting various other German cities was everything I had dreamed of and more. My homestay experience enriched my learning by allowing me to experience daily life in Germany through the lens of a local. I would like to extend a personal thank you to everyone from Goethe-Institut who made my scholarship experience possible. It will forever remain as a defining part of my German learning journey, and motivates me to continuously push myself to be a better communicator in German."

Delighted to hear about your enriching experience in Berlin, Estelle! All the best on your German-learning journey. ๐Ÿ€

Say hi to our scholarship student: Xiao Wen! ๐Ÿ‘‹ A student at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Xiao Wen has been learning first started learning German at National University of Singapore since 2023. In June, she was awarded a scholarship for a two-week intensive course in Berlin by the Goethe-Institut Singapore.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Hereโ€™s what she has to say about her experience in Berlin:

โ€œIt opened my eyes to a realistic lifestyle of someone living in Germany. I was able to apply the German language skills that I learnt during my lessons in daily life situations such as ordering food, taking public transport and conversing with locals. I also had opportunities to participate in cultural activities such as guided tours to museums, going to classical concerts, and meeting many people from around the world who had the common goal of learning German. Berlin is a vibrant city that has many charms, and I would love to visit again!โ€

We're happy to hear you had a fruitful experience in Berlin. Good luck on the rest of your German language-learning journey! ๐Ÿคฉ
