The day before — you could already see it was going to be AMAZING!!

And then Concert Day came … & of course it was!

the performers, the crew, side stage, backstage … everyone showing up for each other, making D3 magic happen

Junior Demi Character Troupe

In our Junior Demi Character troupe, the experience is shaped with the same care and intention — giving our dancers time to listen, to understand character, & to grow into the work together.

The music leads.
The story takes shape.
Every dancer has a role, and every role matters.

In 2025, this Junior team stepped into the same competition spaces as our older dancers, carrying that same sense of responsibility & purpose.

Before results, before the stage, the focus is on learning how to work as a team — building confidence, responsibility, & the simple joy of performing through the process itself.

These are the beginnings of the stories that later unfold on stage.
For many, this is where a lifelong love of performing quietly takes root.

WHEN MOVIES WERE MOVIES

Demi Character lives where classical ballet meets storytelling. It asks dancers not only for clean technique, but for imagination, emotional clarity, & the ability to truly become a character.

These performances & results reflect a true labour of love — choreographed by our Artistic Directors Robyn & Ursula, shaped through months of training by them & our faculty, & brought to life by our dancers. It conveys the quality of work, the depth of preparation & creativity behind it.

We are delighted to have entertained, & that our audiences enjoyed what was presented. 💜

As we look ahead to our Annual Concert in March 2026, we are currently shaping two new productions that continue this approach to training, storytelling, and performance.

What began as a concert piece gradually revealed its depth — & we decided to take this troupe to the 2025 competitions.

Our dancers went on to achieve:

13 & Under Classical / Demi Character Troupe

AND
Highest Scoring Troupe of the Competition

For a troupe of this age group, being awarded highest scoring troupe in today’s highly competitive dance landscape was a true honour. We were pleasantly surprised — & will always cherish that special moment.

But results are only part of the story.
The heart of the work lives in the final post.

WHEN MOVIES WERE MOVIES

For 2025, D3 did what we always do — created an experience for our dancers, as always, with the same care & commitment to excellence, & yet, somehow still just a little bit different, so that it has that touch of being something special, every single time.

This year, we presented a Demi Character troupe inspired by a time WHEN MOVIES WERE MOVIES — when stars were iconic, storytelling mattered, & characters stayed with you, long after the curtain closed.

Think silver screen legends.
Think Marilyn. Fred & Ginger. Shirley Temple. Charlie Chaplin.

This production debuted at Dance Thrilogy’s Annual Concert in March 2025, where six short works in Demi Character, Jazz, Lyrical & Tap dances came together to capture, through music, song & dance, the experience of going to the movies in that long ago era of black-&-white musicals.

This series of 3 posts highlights the many roles that make up our four-minute rendition of a time WHEN MOVIES WERE MOVIES.
