Solving maths using Simultaneous Equation

Dear Parents, as your kid is proceeding to P5 next yr, here are some important information with regards to the exam formats for you to take note.

For some schools, they have already adopted the new format for English. It may be easier for the kids to score more in the comprehension.

For Maths, currently, they are divided into
Section A - 40m (MCQ)
Section B - 40m (Short Answer)
Section C - 20m ( Problem Sums)

P5 Maths break-down
Paper 1/
Section A - 20m ( MCQ)
Section B - 20m (Short Answer)

Paper2 / Section C - 60m (Problem Sums)

Having notice that problem sums actually take up the bulk of the paper and usually is the killer as it consist of heuristics maths (many steps sums), i will be introducing a new curriculum for this component itself.

It will be held at Punggol CC as group tuition so that the kids will be able to discuss the different methods that may be used on one type of problem sums.

Day : Friday
Time : 7pm - 8.30pm (tentative)

Please let me know if you are interested and the timing that you may prefer.

Note : this new curriculum will only focus on Maths Problem Sums.

Joseph had 5 shelves of books. At first, each of the shelves held an equal number of books. Later, he selected 18 books from each shelf to be given away. After that, the total number of books he had left was equal to the total number of books on 2 shelves at first. How many books were there on each shelf at first ?

Jenny had some fiction and non-fiction books to sell. She hae 160 more fiction books than non-fiction books. After selling half of her fiction books and half of her non-fiction books, she had 3 times as many fiction books as non-fiction books. How many books did Jenny have at first ?
