๐ Overall Winners of the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore Sustainability Hackathon 2026!
Huge congratulations to Team HeatSync consisting of Aida Binte Kamalludin, Cecilia Ang Jia Ning and Muhammad Aqil Khaleeq for clinching the top spot among 25 teams at the hackathon. ๐ฏ
Over an intensive two months, the team developed a community cooling solution using terracotta, passive airflow, greenery and kinetic play to reimagine public spaces as heat adaptation hubs. From 3D-printed prototypes to hand-crafted terracotta models and AI-generated visualisations, the team brought their vision to life. ๐คฉ
They are year 1 students from our School of Design and Media's Interior & Product Design course. Their achievement is a testament to their creativity, resilience, teamwork and commitment to addressing real-world sustainability challenges through design.๐ฅ

Their project will also be on public display at Temasek Shophouse this October. ๐ฟ

The ignITE Skills Challenge 2026 has officially concluded with an exciting finale held at ITE College East today! ๐ฅ
Now in its 10th edition, the annual competition saw its highest-ever participation, with a record 1,962 secondary school students signing up to explore their interests, discover new skills, and tackle exciting real-world challenges ๐ Across themes ranging from Agility IgnITEd โ Human Science & Wellness Innovation, Sustainability IgnITEd โ Greenovation & Sustainable Design and Technology IgnITEd โ Technology & Intelligent System, students demonstrated incredible creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills throughout the competition.
We were honoured to have Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education & National Development, as our Guest-of-Honour. During his inspiring speech, he reminded us, "The value of this experience lies not in the final outcomes, but also in the process โ the way you experimented, adapted to constraints, collaborated as teams, and learnt from failures."

And a special mention to this yearโs Overall Champion, Spectra Secondary School, for clinching the Champion Trophy with the highest medal tally ๐๐

THE FINALS ARE TOMORROW! After weeks of workshops, challenges, and fierce competition, the IgnITE Skills Challenge 2026 Finals are finally here ๐ฅ๐
From March 23 to April 3, participants engaged in exciting workshop trainings designed to make learning fun, hands-on, and memorable, giving them the skills and confidence needed to take on their chosen challenges.
Then came the preliminary rounds from April 13 to 16, where students pushed their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities to the next level for a coveted spot in the finals ๐
And this year? We have the highest ever number of participants: 1,962 secondary school students signed up across 17 Skills Challenges! ๐

Weโre delighted to share that Team Coolnected has been awarded ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ in the Budding Youths Track at the ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ถ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฑ. Competing alongside teams from NUS, Republic Polytechnic, SIM and NUS Medicine, our students demonstrated thoughtful problem-solving and strong teamwork throughout the competition. ๐ฑโจ
Our heartfelt congratulations go to Eng Kai Yang, Mohammad Harith Bin Shaez, Theodore Chen Jian Fu and Zonia Lit Zhou Wai from Higher Nitec in Electronics Engineering, together with staff mentors Alex Low, Daryl Lua, Chu Yew Seng and Teo Joo Hang, whose guidance and dedication played a key role in this achievement.
Their winning project โ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ป๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ โ was developed by ITE students in partnership with ChengSan Community Club. This IoT-based solution addresses challenges faced by community fridges, such as unauthorised access, food waste and uneven distribution. Through EZ-Link smart access, sensors, cloud data, electronic locks and CCTV monitoring, the team created a practical, community-centred system to support households in need. โ๏ธ๐ค
