Another amazing feat from Vanessa from class of 2014 🎉

NATIONAL RECORD

Singapore’s National Day turned into a day of double history at the Queensland 10,000m Championships - and it started with Vanessa Lee smashing one of the country’s oldest athletics marks.

Racing in the Women’s A race at the Queensland 10,000m Championships, Vanessa stormed to 36:15.67, finishing first and shattering the 30-year-old national record of 36:27.39 set by Yvonne Danson at the 1995 SEA Games in Chiangmai, Thailand. It was a huge leap from her previous PB of 36:51.55, set earlier this year in Singapore.

With each record, Vanessa is cementing her claim as Singapore’s greatest female distance runner ever. She now holds six national records - the track mile, 3000m steeplechase, 5km road, 5000m, 10km road and 10,000m. This 10,000m mark is her fourth NR of 2025, following the 5000m in March (Melbourne), 3000m steeplechase in May (Hong Kong), and 5km road in July (Gold Coast).

Her 10km road NR of 35:55 from 2024 suggests she can take this time down even further on the track.

Looking ahead to the SEA Games in December, Vanessa said: “Last SEA Games I was in the middle of the field, so I definitely want to be able to contest with the front pack this year, and if I dream big, perhaps a medal?”

The day’s success was made even sweeter by what came after - teammate Shaun Goh breaking the men’s 10,000m NR in the very next race. “I think the achievements from these races are definitely more significant because we did it together,” Vanessa said.

“We are quite similar in terms of the events that we do and we can keep each other in check.”

👏 Congratulations to Vanessa and her coach Nicole Low on another historic performance.
