Many studies have shown that writing and drawing engages our brains far more than typing. ⁣
⁣
According to NeuroRelay, the process of writing stimulates a collection of cells in the base of our brains knows as the reticular activating system. This system acts as a filter for all the information our brains need to process, and it gives more attention to what we are focusing on at that particular point. Therefore when we write, our brain pays close attention to what we’re writing. This encourages memory retention. ⁣
⁣
In one particular study, it also highlighted that writing can serve as a calming, meditative tool which is a helpful stress coping method. Keeping a journal or free-writing exercises can drastically reduce stress levels. ⁣

As digital learning takes its permanent place in our lives now, we have to remember that it remains important for children to access opportunities to engage this fundamental skill of writing.

Recent events have reminded many of us, especially parents, the importance of safety - physical, mental and emotional safety. ⁣
⁣
As I tucked my 8-year-old into bed last night, I hugged him a little tighter than usual and envisioned the future society that he’ll be in. ⁣
⁣
I hope that he’ll be in a community that values collaboration and community over competition. I hope that in that future, people rise by lifting each other up. ⁣
⁣
It has been challenging to helm all areas of this project by myself, but I’m reminded of why I started this and am further affirmed of my decision to continue building this little community. ⁣

Sometimes all they want is a listening ear, wanting their feelings to be heard. But so often all they feel is hurt. ⠀
