"UWCSEA has been such a big change for me. I come from a small town in the countryside of Spain, and I quickly became bored with that lifestyle. Books were my refuge, but I don't know if I would have lasted for much longer if it hadn't been because of the chance of coming to UWCSEA. I really needed the change. Never mind the restless nights, weekly buckets of stress, insane amounts of coursework; the friends I made here and the places I've visited have made my life much more interesting than I imagined -- even more so than some of the books I've read!" - Cosme Aranguren González

"Exactly three days ago my family in Chile were commemorating the second anniversary of the death of my uncle. He died of leukemia just one week before his birthday, his name was Salvador "savior in Spanish". He was turning 15, just like many of you, and he left us sooner than we thought, a couple of days after his last eyelash fell down. Fortunately, my family could cope with the treatment but his cancer was too advanced. I wish that this could never happen to anybody, but life is not that way and cancer does not discriminate between gender, age or social class. Although I would never want you to go through this, let's be honest, we could all afford the treatment. But there are some people out there, not that far away that can't say the same, and today we all have the opportunity to actually help them. These little kids in India have their whole lives ahead, and are willing to fight for their lives, but they can't do it alone. They need support, and through this beautiful event we can help at least a little bit, by raising awareness, collecting money, but the most important part, being empathic and doing something about it, because nothing can make a significant change, but our own actions." - Barbara Ureta
A huge thank you to the Cancer Awareness GC, and all those who took part in this event, for concluding this spirit week with more spirit than ever.
