🤖✨ Innovation, Resilience & Future-Ready Skills

The National Youth Tech Championship (NYTC) 2026 challenged students to apply robotics, AI and programming to solve real-world problems. Our NYTC 2026 Media Club team took on an AI-powered land-based robot challenge, navigating an endurance-style obstacle course using image, colour and positioning recognition.

Through 42 hours of intensive training, our students demonstrated perseverance, teamwork and problem-solving skills, securing 5th place nationally! 🏆

As Minister for Education Mr Desmond Lee highlighted at the award ceremony, experiences like these help students develop not only technical skills, but also important competencies such as critical and adaptive thinking, communication, teamwork and collaboration. This spirit of mentorship and collaboration was evident in how our students learned from and supported one another, with members of our previous team returning to guide the next cohort.

Congratulations to our Media Club team for showing that with creativity, curiosity and critical thinking, challenges can become opportunities to grow—and that AI can be used to enhance, rather than replace, human thinking. 🌱💡

Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence ✨

A huge congratulations to Albert Yaw and Alfred Yaw on receiving the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence!

This national award recognises students who excel not just academically, but also beyond the classroom. With only 12 secondary school recipients nationwide this year, having both Albert and Alfred among this year’s recipients was a particularly proud moment for the Xinmin community.

For the brothers, their time at Xinmin has been about stepping out of their comfort zones, taking on new challenges and growing along the way.

“It was only through Xinmin that I found the courage to step out of my comfort zone and embrace the opportunities given to me. The school community surrounded me with friends and teachers who shaped me into who I am today. They instilled valuable lessons in me and saw my potential, even when I couldn’t see it in myself.” - Albert Yaw

“The Xinmin community has supported me by giving me opportunities to grow, learn and step outside my comfort zone. My teachers and peers have encouraged me throughout my secondary school journey, especially during challenging times, helping me become more confident and resilient.” - Alfred Yaw

From taking the lead among their peers to embracing new challenges, Albert and Alfred have grown into Curious Learners, Confident Leaders and Compassionate Contributors who continue to own their growth. 💪

Join us in celebrating Albert and Alfred’s well-deserved achievement! 👏🎉

Leading Hearts, Leading Minds 💙

Term 3 has been an exciting time for our Student & CCA Leaders as they took charge of their growth:

🤝 XMS × ZHSS Leadership Exchange & Workshop
Building bridges with student leaders from Zhonghua Secondary School to exchange perspectives and best practices.

💡 Leadership Workshop Series
Refining competencies like conflict management and team debrief strategies which are grounded in our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience.

🔖 Peer Support Bookmark Initiative
Spreading kindness through organising a recess booth where students crafted encouraging bookmarks for their peers.

It is inspiring to see our leaders bringing these fresh insights back to spark change in their CCAs and classes! 🔥

Sharpening analytical thinking, solving real-world challenges - International Mathematical Modelling Challenge ✨

Four of our Xinmin mathematicians recently took on the International Mathematical Modelling Challenge (IM2C), putting their analytical, communication, and collaborative skills to the test against complex, real-world problems - and earning a Certificate of Distinction! 🏆

“IM2C was a challenging yet rewarding experience! The task felt extremely complex and overwhelming at first, but as we broke it down and understood how to create the model, it got easier. I learned a lot about how to apply maths to real-world problems.”
- Jacinth (Class 401)

By pushing past initial hesitation and tackling every obstacle step-by-step, our students truly embodied what it means to be curious, resilient learners! 🌟

Experiencing Sustainability Beyond the Classroom! 🌱♻️

Our students embarked on a learning journey to the Sustainable Singapore Gallery at Marina Barrage, where they explored the concept of sustainability through interactive exhibits. The experience deepened their understanding and appreciation of Singapore’s sustainability journey.

They also took part in a hands-on upcycling activity, transforming old T-shirts into unique coasters while discovering how everyday items can be given a new lease of life.

————

“I enjoyed the trip to Marina Barrage as it was both fun and educational. Through the upcycling activity and interactive exhibits, I learnt more about Singapore’s water story, waste management, and energy conservation. The experience gave me new knowledge about sustainability and allowed me to bond with my classmates through shared learning activities.”

🌏✨Celebrating Racial Harmony Day!✨🌏

Our school came together to celebrate Racial Harmony Day!

The celebration kicked off with an Assembly Programme, where our Citizenship Education Ambassadors brought the message of unity to life through a drama performance. Our teachers also took to the stage in a colourful catwalk, proudly showcasing traditional ethnic attire from different communities.

During recess, students enjoyed traditional game booths, discovering more about Singapore's rich cultural heritage. It was also wonderful to see our students dressed in their beautiful ethnic attire, adding vibrant colours to the celebration.

Together, we celebrate our differences, embrace our shared values, and continue building a stronger, more inclusive community.

❤️ Different cultures. One Xinmin.

Living out their motto, “For the Service of Mankind”, our St. John Brigade (SJB) cadets put their lifesaving skills and discipline to the test at the SJB Singapore National First Aid and Drills Competitions! This follows their stellar achievements at the Northeast District First Aid Competition 2026:

“It was a tiring process, and I now fully understand the patience and effort my seniors invested in me back in Secondary 2. One thing I’m especially proud of is that everyone gave their absolute best in every training session. The teamwork and determination we showed throughout this journey made it all worthwhile.”
