If you learn to listen, the Earth will speak.
The sun.
The soil.

The water.

I didn’t pick up this skills from a screen.
I chased them across borders, through jungles and forests, over mountains and rivers. Chasing fragments of wisdom held by people who don’t study survival… they inherit it. People whose hands carry generations of knowing.

I never travelled to “collect certificates.” I travelled to sharpen my craft so the next generation gets the real thing, not the diluted, half-researched trivia that floods the world today.

So when I teach a child how to find North without a compass, I’m not showing a neat little trick. I’m handing over a piece of the wild I had to earn.

Maybe that’s why it is infuriating to see knock-off programmes turn ancient, life-tested knowledge into shallow party tricks.
Especially when some of them pulled their “expertise” straight from YouTube.

Survival isn’t a gimmick.
It’s a language.
And kids deserve fluency, not fragments.

At Longkang Adventures, every skill comes from somewhere real.
Somewhere rugged.
Somewhere that changed me first… before I ever passed it on.

This isn’t content.
This is craft.
This is legacy.

And I take immense pride in passing these skills to the next generation. In ways no screen can ever replicate.

We try so hard to “teach” them the “right things”…

But the truth is, the things that stay forever aren’t in any textbook.

It’s the adventures that went “off-plan.”
The mess we didn’t stop.
The risks we didn’t overprotect.

Childhood isn’t built in classrooms. It’s built in the moments we let them live.

Kids aren’t addicted to screens.
They’re STARVING for REAL LIFE.

We keep saying “times have changed,” but maybe it’s not the times…
Maybe it’s us.
Our fear.
Our rush.
Our need for “convenience.”
Let a kid loose for 10 minutes and you’ll see their childhood wakes up.

Are screens the problem?
Or have we made real play too controlled, too clean, too safe…

That’s the power of doing hard things, confidence appears where comfort used to sit. Every parent wants a brave kid but, bravery doesn’t grow on plastic slides, rubber mats, or perfectly sanitised play zones.

Bravery grows in the wild… where they slip, get muddy, climb too high, and realise they survived. And loved it!

Some kids just need permission to be messy again, to lose the fear adults accidentally teach them. And when they do, they’ll begin to see their real self. The wild-hearted self. The one that remembers kampung childhoods we thought were gone.
