As an educator, moments like these are priceless.
This morning, I caught up with one of my former student, from the Class of 2014.. Looking at him today, smiling while holding a copy of my newly published O-Level Chemistry guidebook, I couldn't help but think back to when he was in Secondary 4.
Back then, Chemistry wasn't his strongest subject. He struggled with many concepts and often found the subject challenging. But what stood out was his willingness to learn. He kept asking questions, worked hard, and never gave up. Lesson by lesson, his confidence grew, and so did his results.
Today, he is a Secondary School Chemistry teacher.
Next year, he will embark on a new chapter as a Pre University Chemistry lecturer.
As educators, we often wonder whether the countless hours spent preparing lessons, writing notes, clarifying their doubts and encouraging students truly make a difference. Then life gives us moments like this.
I was delighted to present him with a copy of my newly published O-Level (G3) Chemistry book. His kind testimonial is one of the many that I have received from our ex students and included in the book, and it means so much to me because it comes from someone who experienced the journey first handโfrom a student who once struggled with Chemistry to an educator who now teaches the very subject he has grown to love.
Education is never just about helping students score well in examinations. It's about building confidence, igniting curiosity, and helping young people discover what they are capable of achieving.
Watching a former student become a fellow Chemistry educator is one of the greatest blessings of my teaching journey.
Thank you Zheng Jie for your kind words and for allowing me to be a small part of your story. I'm incredibly proud of all that you have accomplished and excited to see the many students whose lives you will influence in the years ahead.
Sometimes, the greatest reward for a teacher isn't the gradesโit is seeing your students become the teachers who will inspire the next generation.

I hope this story encourages every student to believe that with dedication, the right guidance, and perseverance, great things are possible.
