28 Aug 2026 | Theme: You Wonโ€™t Believe I Can Do This.

Stories shared and laughter grew,
Ideas sparked with every view.
With every voice, new sparks were found;
An evening where joy and learning abound.

๐ŸŽค Huang Ke, our Sergeant at Arms, opened the meeting with the theme โ€œYou wonโ€™t believe, I can do this,โ€ inviting everyone to share a message theyโ€™d like others in the room to hear. She then passed the spotlight to our Toastmaster of the Day.

๐ŸŒŸ Ming Chuan took the role of Toastmaster of the Day, smoothly guiding the meeting from one segment to the next and ensuring everything ran seamlessly. The evening was filled with meaningful sharing and learning for all. After this, the meeting continued with the Opening Address.

โœฆ SC, our engaging speaker, delivered his speech titled "3 Fears" He shared that joining the contest with the goal of winning, finding support, and practicing humor were key steps to overcoming those fears.
โœฆ Yayun, our inspiring speaker, delivered her speech titled "Growing and Glowing" She reminded us that true promotion isnโ€™t about titles, but about the person we become throughout our journey.
Following the inspiring speeches, the meeting moved into a lively impromptu speaking session.

As part of our Toastmasters public speaking meeting, she encouraged participants to strengthen their impromptu speaking and communication skills by responding to thought-provoking prompts. Each speaker took the challenge, thinking on their feet and sharing unique perspectives. The session became a lively showcase of public speaking growth, leaving everyone inspired and engaged.

To our evaluators, Huang Ke and SC, thank you so much for your insights and guidance; with every kind word and thoughtful review, you help us strengthen our public speaking skills, grow as communicators, and continue to improve on our Toastmasters journey.

14 August 2026 | Theme: My Singapore, My Story
Our Sergeant at Arms, Yimon, warmly kicked off the meeting with the theme โ€œMy Singapore, My Story.โ€ She shared her views on the theme and invited everyone to share their thoughts and perspectives as well. The exchange created a lively and enjoyable start to the evening.
๐ŸŽค Toastmaster of the Day
Our Toastmaster of the Day, Ming Chuan, introduced the different sessions of the meeting, giving everyone a glimpse of what was ahead before warmly inviting our Club President, Kamal, to deliver the opening address.
๐Ÿ‘‘ Presidentโ€™s Address
Kamal shared a valuable challenge with everyone: What is one thing you want to improve this year? Whether it is becoming a better speaker, evaluating fellow members, or mentoring someone, she encouraged everyone to choose one area, make a plan, and take action towards meaningful improvement.
Her message reminded us that growth begins when we consciously challenge ourselves.
๐Ÿค ExCo Installation
The stage was then handed back to Ming Chuan, who welcomed our J5 Area Director, Dr. Lakshmi, for the installation of both the outgoing and incoming ExCo members.
Dr. Lakshmi briefed the ExCo members on their respective roles and responsibilities and sought their commitment to carrying out their duties effectively.
๐Ÿ“š Education Enrichment Session
Shanmuga Priya led an engaging session titled โ€œInvite, Inspire, Include.โ€ She highlighted how each member can contribute to creating a welcoming environment where people feel encouraged to participate, learn, and grow.
She also reminded us that building a healthy and supportive club is a shared responsibility, by encouraging one another, sharing opportunities and helping each other progress towards our goals.
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Prepared Speeches
โœจOur first speaker, Ming Chuan, delivered speech titled โ€œA Self Introduction.โ€ He shared his journey from becoming a Club President during the challenging COVID-19 period to developing his confidence and communication skills through the responsibilities he took on.
His message was simple and powerful: donโ€™t wait for perfection, step onto the stage and speak. Through consistent effort and practice, he gradually became more confident and even earned a trophy for his speaking skills at the Area Contest.
He reminded us that communication is learned through doing, and that the audience itself can become our teacher. His message for anyone wanting to improve at work was equally meaningful: come and talk about what you do on the Toastmasters stage and watch your confidence grow.
He ended with an inspiring reminder: โ€œYou can do it! and you can do better than me!โ€

โœจOur second speaker, Huang Ke, delivered โ€œThe Supportive Communicator: From Listening to Speaking Up.โ€ She shared how she learned to find a balance between listening and expressing herself.
She reminded us that listening is an act of care, but staying silent does not always create peace, it can sometimes postpone important conversations. Her message beautifully captured the balance between empathy and responsibility:
โ€œListen with empathy, speak with courage and connect with respect.โ€

โœจOur third speaker, Sankar, presented โ€œThe Power of One Encouraging Voice.โ€ He reflected on how people often notice mistakes, while meaningful guidance and encouragement can sometimes be missing.
He shared how a teacherโ€™s encouragement during his studies strengthened his confidence and contributed to better results. His key message was that feedback is not simply about pointing out weaknesses; it is about unlocking strengths that people may not yet realise they possess.

โœจOur fourth speaker, Jia Jun, delivered โ€œWe Used to Be Best Friends.โ€ Through a personal story about friendship and the difficulties he experienced, he shared how guidance from a supervisor helped him navigate a challenging period.
He concluded with an important reminder about the value of mental well-being and taking good care of ourselves.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Table Topics
Paul, our Table Topics Master, made the session lively by encouraging everyone to step up, think on the spot, and share their ideas.
๐Ÿ“ Evaluations
Like a diamond shaped through patience and refinement, every speaker becomes stronger through thoughtful feedback and encouragement. A heartfelt thank you to Yamuna, Gao Ping, Menaka, and Sankar for guiding our speakers and helping them improve with confidence.
โฑ๏ธ Timer
Like a steady rhythm keeping a performance on track, Charlene, our Timer, carefully tracked the time for each speaker and evaluator, helping everyone stay within the time limit and make every moment count.
๐Ÿ† Awards of the Night
Our Club President, Kamal, presented the awards for Best Speaker, Best Table Topics Speaker, and Best Evaluator, celebrating the outstanding efforts and contributions of the evening.
๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Speaker: Ming Chuan

People will forget what you say,
People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget how you made them feel.

โœจ Shanmugam, our inspiring speaker, delivered his speech titled "Unhelpful Thought Patterns." He explained how both positive and negative thinking can shape our lives, with some people naturally focusing on the positive and others on the negative. โœจ Gaoping, our dedicated speaker, delivered his speech titled "Progress Over Perfection." He emphasized the importance of focusing on one step at a time and embracing steady progress. Gaoping spoke about the doubts that can come with making big decisions, such as starting a business, and encouraged everyone to keep moving forward on their professional paths by always considering the next small step and finding ways to inspire themselves along the way.

โœจ Shanmuga Priya, our passionate speaker, delivered her speech titled "The Woman I Never Met." She reflected on how one important question, what do you want your audience to remember, helped her discover a deeper purpose as a speaker. Through Toastmasters, she realized that completing projects not only helps her become a better speaker, but also a better person. She emphasized how a mentorโ€™s belief can help overcome fear and inspire self-confidence, encouraging everyone to seek out mentors who can help them achieve their best.
