Invitation to witness the unveiling of the Victoria School Boy Bronze Statue on 14 April 2018:

*Victoria School Boy Bronze Statue Installed at Former VS Tyrwhitt Campus*

A Victoria School boy bronze statue has been installed at the old Victoria School campus at Tyrwhitt Road.

Old Victorian Lim Eng Chong, who contributed the sculpture commented:

“After six years from its conception, the VS boy statue is finally standing tall and proud at "his rightful home”.

He had conceived the idea as he felt it was important to preserve the long and illustrious history and heritage of the school. The old school building and premises are now occupied by the People's Association as its Headquarters. Eng Chong's concern was that in the many years and decades to come, future generations of Singaporeans and even future Victorians would not know that the elegant old colonial building with its period architecture was originally the home of Victoria School. He had thought of putting up some kind of a memorial landmark to commemorate and preserve the history and origin of the old building and the place. The idea crystallized into the form of a Victoria School boy statue cast in bronze, which would be able to withstand the elements of the weather and the test of time.

The Tyrwhitt campus holds a treasure of memories for many generations of Tyrwhitt Victorians who were based there from 1933 to 1984. Among the Tyrwhitt Victorians, there are many who have contributed much to the history and story of Singapore’s nation building. These include former Singapore Presidents Devan Nair, S.R.Nathan, former Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, leaders in the civil service, the military, the police, the academia, the medical, legal, cultural and business fraternities.

In conjunction with the Singapore Heritage Festival week, the school, with the support of the National Heritage Board and the Peoples’ Association, will hold a ceremony to unveil the Victoria School Boy Bronze Statue on:

Date : *14 April 2018*
Time: *Saturday, 10 am*
Venue: *Old Victoria School Campus Road*
(Present Peoples’ Association HQ. New main gate/entrance is now at King George's Avenue).

All Victorians - past and present students, Principals, teachers and staff of Victoria School & Victoria Junior College, are invited to come witness this historic Victorian event. Bring your family along too.

*Gather your Victorian friends for a big reunion with other Old Vics on Saturday morning, 14 April 2018*.

It is an opportune time and occasion for Tyrwhitt Victorians to visit “the old stomping ground” of those by-gone youthful years again.
Walk down those long, hallowed corridors of Tyrwhitt with your old classmates again; peek into the old classrooms and feel the past come alive at Tyrwhitt.
Yes, go into the Victorian Time-machine and *walk down the memory lane of Tyrwhitt*.

The present Victoria School boys, the Principal and teachers will be there to participate and inter-act with Old Victorians and learn about Victorian days at Tyrwhitt. Come share with them your stories, and recollect old memories with other Old Victorians and Old teachers of your time.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Menon Sankara in India.

Mr Menon was a student in Victoria School in the 50s, before joining Victoria School as a teacher in 1973.

He taught mainly English and General Science until 1990 when he was transferred to Bendemeer Secondary school and retired in the mid 90s.

Mr Menon was fondly remembered by his students whom he had taught for his own brand of humour and manner in which he instilled discipline.

Many will also remember him as the teacher in charge of Volleyball. He was well liked and respected by his boys and colleagues alike.

Our deepest condolences to his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Sir!
