Minis Classes.
Little Sunshine Learning Centre is pleased to announce that we are conducting classes for children aged 3-4 years old. Duration of each class is 75 minutes. It will be held every Saturday starting 16 September 2023 at 9:00 to 10:15 am.
The class is kept small with a maximum of 4 children along with 2 Teachers.

When young children are exposed to early literacy, it will help them develop a rich vocabulary, self-expression and reading comprehension. These are fundamental tools to become successful readers and lifelong learners.

Our weekly lesson will follow a cumulative scope and sequence, and each session follows our explicit teaching approach of revise - teach - practise - apply - assess.

Children will be introduced to simple code using a delightful story about Milo and his friends with lots of exposure to prints, oral language, vocabularies and letter sounds. Our friendly Ally the Alligator teaches the children how to blend sounds into words together with other fun activities that will develop their gross motor skills and strengthening of the fingers. All through PLAY!

Fundamental Pre-Reading Skills. Research indicates that key predictive skills and abilities of children ages birth through 5 years that promotes their later reading outcomes includes the following:

🐻Oral language
listening comprehension, oral language vocabulary

🦁Alphabetic Code
alphabet knowledge, phonological/ phonemic awareness (the ability to discriminate sounds in words), invented spelling

🐹Print Knowledge/Concepts
environmental print, concepts about print

🐨Critical Thinking Skills
analyse a topic and formed a unique and informed opinion

It will be held every Sunday with 2 options;
1) 9:15 to 10:30 am or
2) 1:15 to 2:30 pm.
Actual starting date is to be advised once full enrolment is achieved. The class is kept small with a maximum of 4 children along with 2 teachers.

Activities are multi-sensorial and hands-on that will keep your child engaged while learning their letter-sounds and their respective formations.

Magna Tiles Spelling practice

Children learn to read faster than they spell. Children have very little difficulty to decode or read the word "pocket" once they learn the phonogram /ck/.

However once the phonogram /ch/ makes the hard /k/ in words like “stomach”, children will then have to remember by heart which phonogram sound to use -/ch/ or /ck/ (which also makes the same phonogram sound). It can be very daunting for children to remember these numerous spelling rules.

Therefore, games or fun manipulatives will be the best option to increase engagement and retention.

Here, square magna tiles were used to spell the base word and the triangle to spell its suffix. This simple strategy will help children visualize and understand the separate spelling. Subsequently, when the base word and its suffix are combined, the word is spelled correctly.

Children are more willing to attempt as it is less laborious and there is an element of fun incorporated in their learning.

Water beads reading. Sensory activities have always been a hot favourite among children of all ages.

In this activity, written cut-out transparent sheets are hidden beneath those beads.

1) Locate each word amongst the beads, read it and identify the same word on the board. Cross the word out until all words are read.

2) Pick and read the words one by one or collect them together and read the words all at once.
