It was a pleasure hosting a group of exchange nursing students from Northumbria University, UK, as they visited us to learn more about how different cultures understand death, dying and bereavement 🇬🇧🇸🇬

Death may be universal, but the way we talk about it, prepare for it, mourn, remember and honour our loved ones can be very different across cultures 🌍

For the students, it was an opportunity to explore Singapore’s Chinese funeral traditions and perspectives on afterlife practices. For us, it was equally meaningful to hear their perspectives from the UK!

These cross-cultural conversations remind me why death literacy and education are so important. Understanding different beliefs and practices helps healthcare professionals, bereavement care providers and communities support individuals and families with greater empathy and respect ❤️

Thank you to the students for your curiosity, thoughtful questions and openness to learning 🤗

May we continue to learn from one another — not just about how we care for people in life, but also how we care for them at the end of life 🙏🏻

Before the crowds arrive, our team is already preparing—checking prayer tablets, locating each offering set, planning the best timing and anticipating what our customers may need.

Many customers may not be able to attend personally, so we take photos and send them updates, reassuring them that their prayers and offerings have been properly arranged and their loved ones are well cared for.

Good service is not just responding when help is requested. It is preparing in advance, anticipating needs and making everything as smooth and worry-free as possible ❤️

The Phase 9 Exhumation Programme covers the Chinese Cemetery which involves Block 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 3E, 14E, 14F, 14G, 17, 18 and 19. The graves at the affected blocks date back to between 1965 and 1997.

With effect from 1 August 2026, graves under the Phase 9 Exhumation Programme will be hoarded to facilitate preparation works for exhumation. For safety reasons, members of public will not be permitted to enter the affected areas.
