Workshop Recap: Future-Proofing Careers – From Personal Clarity to Better Conversations

IHRP recently hosted members of our HR community for a workshop conducted by the Skills & Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), aimed at equipping HR professionals with practical insights and tools to support employees in building sustainable and resilient careers.

As careers become less linear and skills requirements continue to evolve, HR professionals play an increasingly important role in helping individuals navigate change with greater clarity and confidence. Across the session, speakers Chris Lau and Shawn Moi explored how HR professionals can first gain personal clarity in their own career journeys and from there, be better equipped to can support more intentional career development and meaningful workplace conversations in their organisations.

Participants were introduced to the concept of career health as a framework for individuals to assess their strengths, goals and development needs, while exploring ways HR can support greater ownership of career development.

Building on the earlier takeaways, participants then explored how greater career awareness can translate into more meaningful workplace conversations. The session offered practical approaches for managers and employees to discuss growth, mobility and employability, particularly amid ongoing workforce planning and retention challenges.

A big thank you to Chris and Shawn for sharing their insights, and to everyone from our community who joined us and contributed to the conversations.

Through collaborations with partners such as SWDA, IHRP remains committed to creating opportunities for our HR community to stay informed, build new capabilities and be better equipped to support the evolving needs of Singapore's workforce. Stay tuned to our page for other events!

10 Years of IHRP Celebrated in Style! 🎉

Our official birthday was on 9 August, but we brought the celebration to life on 28 August with a team gathering that was equal parts creative and chaotic (in the best way).

The challenge: write, direct, and produce a short video clip inspired by one of IHRP's five core values — Collaborative, Purposeful, Professional, Resilient, and Passionate — all against the clock. Cue the brainstorming, the multiple takes, and the good-natured competitiveness!

The final clips didn't disappoint, striking that perfect balance between laugh-out-loud funny and genuinely heartwarming, as teams pulled together to bring their ideas to the screen.

A big thank you to our Recreation Team for pulling together a celebration to remember; right down to the customised coasters everyone got to take home. Add in a good lunch and plenty of smiles, and it made for a memorable afternoon all round.

Here's to 10 years of growth, teamwork, and impact and most of all, to what's next.

For SMEs, workforce challenges are rarely just HR issues.

Rising manpower costs. Talent that's hard to attract and even harder to retain. Productivity pressure. Skills gaps. Leadership stretched thin.

Each one looks like a separate fire to put out. But they're connected, and solving them one at a time rarely works.

The real question SME leaders are facing right now:
❓ How do you grow the business without growing costs at the same rate?
❓ How do you keep people engaged while asking teams to do more?
❓ How do you know which capabilities you actually need next?

We built an event to help you answer exactly that.

📅 Join us at the People Behind People (PBP) Conference 2026 – SME Success Track on 24 September 2026, 3.00pm to 5.30pm.

🎟️ Free access includes the full conference exhibition

🌟 People Behind People 2026: Meet Our Guest-of-Honour

We are honoured to welcome Foo Cexiang, Minister of State for Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Trade and Industry, as the Guest-of-Honour for People Behind People (PBP) 2026: Architecting the Augmented Workforce.

When people talk about AI, the conversation often centres on which jobs will disappear. A more important question is: How will jobs evolve?

History has shown that technology rarely replaces work wholesale. Instead, it reshapes tasks, creates new roles, and raises the value of distinctly human capabilities such as judgement, creativity, collaboration and empathy.

At People Behind People 2026, we'll explore how organisations are approaching job redesign, workforce planning and human–AI collaboration in practical, actionable ways.

[Brought to you by Skills & Workforce Development Agency (SWDA)] Future-Proofing Careers Workshop on 2 September 2026

Careers today aren't as linear as they used to be and skills needs are shifting faster than ever. That means HR has a bigger role to play in helping people navigate change with clarity.

The upcoming two-part in-person workshop, Future-Proofing Careers: From Personal Clarity to Better Conversations, is designed to do just that; moving from personal career planning to practical, real-world career conversations. Hear from speakers Chris Lau and Shawn Moi as they share more in:

🔹 Part 1: Career Planning amidst AI Disruption
As hiring gets more selective and roles evolve alongside AI and automation, career planning is no longer a nice-to-have; it's a practical priority. This segment introduces "career health" as a lens for helping employees reflect on their strengths, goals and development needs, while giving HR professionals the tools to support more intentional, realistic career ownership.

🔹 Part 2: Shaping Career Conversations Culture for HR Professionals
Building on Part 1, this segment is about turning career awareness into stronger workplace conversations. As organisations juggle retention pressures, workforce planning and evolving skills demands, our speakers will share practical ways to help managers and employees talk about growth, mobility and employability with more clarity and confidence.

By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to:
✅ Understand career health and why it matters in today's changing work environment
✅ Identify the key factors behind more intentional career development decisions
✅ Facilitate meaningful career conversations using practical tools and frameworks
