On 24 July, GMS(S) proudly launched the inaugural GEMS Illuminate, our new monthly lunchtime performance series that celebrates the talents of our GEMS.
Students were treated to delightful piano and vocal performances that filled the canteen with energy and excitement. It was heartening to see so many students gathering to watch, cheering on their peers, and celebrating one another's talents.
GEMS Illuminate provides an authentic platform for students to discover their potential, develop their talents, and grow in confidence through the performing arts. More importantly, it celebrates the courage to step forward, perform, and inspire others.
We look forward to seeing many more GEMS take the stage and light up our school community in the months ahead.

Our People, Our Tapestry 🇸🇬 Edition
Our GM community came together to commemorate Racial Harmony Week 2026 through this year’s theme, “Our People, Our Tapestry.” ❤️
Throughout the week, our school was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Singapore’s multicultural identity. The festivities began with the Majulah! Cultural Catwalk, where students and staff proudly showcased the beauty and diversity of our nation’s cultural heritage through traditional attire. A special mention to our sporting Form Teachers for embracing the spirit of the occasion, and congratulations to the top three winners from each level for bringing our multicultural tapestry to life with confidence and pride!
The celebrations continued with engaging CCE lessons and interactive recess activities, where students experienced culture through creativity, food and play. From batik painting, Chinese bracelet knotting and Peranakan attire try-ons to murukku making, putu piring, teh tarik and nostalgic traditional games, each experience offered an opportunity to discover, appreciate and celebrate one another’s heritage. The week concluded with our annual GEM Entrepreneurship Bazaar, where trendy plushies met old-school nostalgia, bringing our school community together in a joyful celebration of creativity, enterprise and togetherness.
At GM, racial harmony is more than a week of activities; it is reflected in the friendships we build, the respect we show and the inclusive community we create every day. Together, we continue to weave a tapestry that is richer, stronger and more beautiful because of our diversity. 🇸🇬
❤️Many Cultures. One GM Family. One Singapore. 🇸🇬

Sec 1 GEMS: Building Together, Growing Together
From 6–9 May, our Secondary 1 students embarked on their Outdoor Learning Activity, a four-day camp that took them on a journey of challenge, discovery and growth.
Through every obstacle conquered and every team challenge completed, they demonstrated courage, resilience and teamwork. Along the way, friendships were strengthened, confidence grew, and countless acts of kindness, initiative and encouragement showed that every individual has the power to make a difference.
Beyond the activities, the camp provided valuable opportunities for our students to develop leadership, strengthen communication skills, and learn the importance of looking out for one another. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow, not only as individuals, but also as a cohort united by shared experiences and a common purpose.
Every experience shapes who we become, and for our Sec 1 GEMS, this journey of growing and building together has only just begun.

International Friendship Week 2026 @ GMSS 13 April-17 April 2026
This April, we commemorated International Friendship Week with a series of meaningful experiences that brought learning beyond the classroom for our GEMS students.
Anchored on the theme ‘Forging Friendships in a Complex World’, students explored Singapore’s connections with the region and beyond, gaining deeper insights into the importance of cooperation across cultures, communities, and countries. As Asia continues to grow as a dynamic global region, our students developed a stronger awareness of the geopolitical realities shaping our world, and the role that friendship and partnership play in navigating them.
The week was launched during GEM Time with an ASEAN-focused sharing on Indonesian and Vietnamese cultures. During recess, students immersed themselves in traditional games from across the region, including South Korean Ddakji, the Indian Tiger and Goat game, Chinese Yo-Yo, Indonesian Congkak and Galeng Panjang, and Japanese Kendama.
In the spirit of cultural appreciation, staff and students also enjoyed a variety of regional delights such as Lemper, Bánh mì, Vietnamese popiah, Thai Red Ruby, and Thai milk tea.
To further enrich the experience, our international students and their local buddies took part in a specially curated visit to the Peranakan Museum, where they gained deeper insights into Peranakan culture and its historical significance within the Joo Chiat and Katong neighbourhoods.
Through these shared experiences, we continue to strengthen bonds, celebrate diversity, and nurture globally aware citizens who are ready to thrive in an interconnected world.

Elements of Business Skills (EBS) Students Check In to the Business of Service
Our EBS students recently embarked on an enriching learning journey to JW Marriott Singapore South Beach, where they gained valuable insights into the world of hospitality, luxury service, and hotel operations.
A heartfelt thank you to the hotel personnel for the warm welcome and wonderful hospitality throughout the visit. Our students were highly engaged during the session, enthusiastically participating in discussions and even receiving exclusive limited-edition merchandise!
The guided hotel tour was truly eye-opening. Students had the opportunity to explore various back-of-house areas, F&B outlets, meeting spaces, and the magnificent grand ballroom. Along the way, they were captivated by the hotel’s stunning architecture and thoughtfully curated art pieces, which added to the unique atmosphere of the space. A particularly fascinating feature was discovering how the hotel maintains a cool and airy environment through innovative architectural design, despite the absence of fans, making it a remarkable example of sustainability in action.
From an EBS perspective, key concepts such as Customer Service, Product, and Place were brought to life through the hotel’s exceptional guest experience, strategic location, and diverse range of offerings.
It was a meaningful, memorable, and enjoyable learning experience for all!
