Dear Parents, has your child stagnated in his or her progress in the English Language, never seeming to be able to break through an invisible grade barrier? If you are looking for a new direction to overcome this, perhaps this might be the kickstart your child needs.
This two-hour workshop has been designed specifically for students who have been averaging Bs and Cs in English Language.
Objectives
To provide participants with:
1. a simple framework to enhance their understanding of how the language works, &
2. the important, specific aspects to focus on for long-term improvement.
* This workshop is meant only for students who have a desire to improve - it is not meant for students who do not want to attend it, but who have been ‘persuaded’ to do so.
Content Coverage
1. Clarity on the different types of tenses, and how to use them correctly.
2. Basic grammatical concepts e.g. subject-verb agreement, verb and word forms.
3. The fundamentals of sentence construction (parts of speech) and accuracy.
4. How to develop details (for places, people, objects & actions) in writing.
5. What examiners look out for in e.g. variety in vocabulary, variety in sentence types, sentence accuracy/punctuation, and organisation of ideas through paragraphs.
6. In the last half hour, fielding questions from participants, clarifying doubts.
As you would know, there is no two hour workshop on the planet that can transform a child’s fortunes in the English Language. However, what this workshop can do for your child is to give him or her valuable insight into it, in the hope that it turns on a lightbulb in his or her mind. If your child can see in this one workshop that there is a method to use to improve in English, that there is a way, then I believe that you would agree it would have been time well spent. If not, then two hours isn’t such a big loss, is it?
Why am I Doing this for Free?
I am passionate about the language, and derive great satisfaction from seeing students like your child experience that ‘wow!’ moment, when they learn something new.
Yes, I do this for a living, full-time, from January to November. December is my month off, but I use the first week of it to give back a little. If I can help to trigger an interest in your child during this workshop, by teaching him/her something useful, it would be amazing.
Finally, if your child likes what they have experienced and want more, it is an opportunity for me too to get a new student onboard for full-time classes in 2020. Otherwise, both your child and I are better off anyway after the workshop ☺
