The concept of Five Zang and Six Fu (五脏六腑) originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and refers to the body's internal organs, classified into two groups: the Zang (solid organs) and the Fu (hollow organs).

Five Zang (五脏)
The Zang organs are considered vital and are primarily responsible for storing essential substances and regulating fundamental physiological functions:

1. Heart (心):Governs the blood vessels and is the seat of consciousness and spirit.

2. Liver (肝):Responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and stores blood.

3. Spleen (脾): Involved in digestion and nutrient absorption, and controls blood.

4. Lungs (肺):Manages the Qi, controls respiration, and regulates water metabolism.

5. Kidneys (肾): Stores essential energy (Jing), governs water metabolism, and plays a role in reproduction and growth.

Six Fu (六腑):
The Fu organs are mainly involved in processing and transporting food, waste, and fluids:

1. Gallbladder (胆): Stores and excretes bile, and is involved in decision-making.

2. Stomach (胃):Receives and breaks down food.

3. Small Intestine (小肠): Separates the pure from the impure, absorbing nutrients.

4. Large Intestine (大肠):Conducts waste and absorbs water.

5. Bladder (膀胱):Stores and excretes urine.

6. Triple Burner (三焦): A unique concept in TCM, responsible for the overall regulation of water pathways and the distribution of energy (Qi) in the body.

Overview:
In TCM, the Five Zang are considered more vital because they store the essential substances such as Qi, blood, and essence, while the Six Fu are primarily involved in digestion and the transportation of nutrients and waste. Together, these organs work in harmony to maintain the body's health and balance. The theory emphasizes that disease arises when the balance between these organs is disturbed, and treatment aims to restore this balance.
