The male shows off… and the female handles business.
The female woodpecker usually does not have the red crown, while the male does.

Why does the male get the flashy red hat?
Because nature decided someone had to do the advertising.
Bright colours like red help males attract females and also signal to other males: taken, thank you very much.

The female usually has duller colours for better camouflage and protection, especially when nesting.

At the Science Centre I saw something wild.
🌪🔥 A fire tornado 🔥🌪

Flames twisting upward like they had somewhere important to be.
But here is the twist. Fire may look fierce and unstoppable, yet it is actually very demanding.

It only appears when three things agree to work together.
Scientists call this the Fire Triangle.
⛽️ Fuel
💨 Oxygen
💥 Ignition (heat)

Remove any one, and the flame immediately loses interest.
Turns out flames may look dramatic…
but they are really just very picky chemistry.

If you are looking for a weekend activity that gets kids curious, engaged, and thinking, this is a great choice. A big YES from me!

I recently went for one of the Nature and Sustainability Tours at Gardens by the Bay and absolutely enjoyed it. What started as a simple walk quickly became a wow experience full of discoveries and aha moments.

The guides are fantastic. They bring science to life in a fun and very visual way. Kids see biodiversity in action, learn about habitats, understand pollination, and connect climate ideas to real plants and animals around them. It feels like exploring a secret world and is one of those activities that genuinely blends fun with meaningful learning.!

You can find the tour details on Eventbrite under Gardens by the Bay.

Pi. A concept that can be difficult to understand, but is central to so many aspects of our lives. It goes on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever…. It truly is the number that goes on to infinity.

In addition to being National Pi Day, March 14 is also the birthday of a very important scientist: Albert Einstein.
