SMU College of Integrative Studies Established in 2022, the College of Integrative Studies emphasises the importance of integrating idea

The College aims to nurture graduates who will confidently navigate the emerging issues of a complex world, reframe and address challenges beyond a single discipline or traditional paradigms, and contribute to industry and society in novel and unconventional ways. CIS oversees the SMU Core Curriculum, and three undergraduate programmes: a deferred declaration of degree programme, an Individualised

Major culminating in a Bachelors of Integrative Studies, and an Individualised Second Major. The College also offers postgraduate programmes at both the Master’s and PhD levels. In addition, the College houses the Wee Kim Wee Centre, which promotes a deeper understanding of the impact of cultural diversity on contemporary life, and manages SMU’s Residential Living and Learning initiatives, including the Prinsep Street Residences and its programmes.

Meet Dominic Lee! 🍃✨

Having just completed his D3 year, Dominic chose CIS for the freedom to explore his interests before designing his Individualised Major. Today, he's drawn to the intersection of philosophy, psychology, and well-being.

With support from the CIS Movement Fund, Dominic spent a month at Hōkō-ji Temple in Japan, where daily meditation and mindfulness deepened his understanding of well-being and reinforced his passion for pursuing knowledge beyond the classroom.

For Rena Tan, Senior Manager at City Developments Limited (CDL), working with CIS students Aarushi, Chloe, Julianne and Nicholle has delivered just that.

Meet Chriscavin Wijaya! 🌱✨

A Year 4 BIS student pursuing his Individualised Major in Sustainable Development and Technologies, Chriscavin chose CIS for the freedom to shape an interdisciplinary path that will help him in pursuing his professional aspirations.

That flexibility allowed him to propose his own work-study elective as an intern with the Chief Sustainability Office at DBS, alongside his experience as a Sustainability and Data Protection Intern at Pontiac Land Group.

As he prepares for his upcoming exchange at Copenhagen Business School, Chriscavin reflects on how CIS has equipped him to pursue sustainability on a global stage.

A CIS alumnus who graduated with an Individualised Second Major in Sustainable Enterprise Strategy, Pranav has turned his passion for sustainability into action through two startups: ShareRight and EcoCupid.

Drawing on the interdisciplinary mindset he developed at CIS, Pranav shares how learning across different disciplines gave him the perspective to navigate complex sustainability challenges, build solutions with multiple stakeholders in mind, and pursue entrepreneurship with purpose.
