Three days. One clear message β successful healthcare AI is about much more than the technology.
The NUS Health. AI Leadership Executive (HALE) Masterclass 2026 has come to a close after three days of learning, discussion and exchange on what it takes to translate AI into meaningful healthcare impact.
Bringing together over 30 senior leaders and professionals from Singapore and across the region, the masterclass welcomed senior academic and healthcare leaders, experienced healthcare professionals from NUHS, SingHealth/SGH, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Woodlands Health and other institutions, as well as a strong international delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hanoi Medical University, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Siloam Hospitals.
The multidisciplinary cohort spanned clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacy, radiography, clinical informatics, innovation, hospital administration and transformation, with perspectives from beyond healthcare in technology, strategic transformation, and privacy and governance.
Across the three days, one conversation built on another:
Day 1 | Readiness before technology
Adj Professor Ngiam Kee Yuan and Assoc Professor Mengling βMorninβ Feng explored the foundations of digital transformation, AI and generative AI in healthcare. The takeaway, you can buy the tools, but you cannot buy the readiness. Infrastructure, governance, workflow redesign and change management require leadership, while human judgement and accountability remain central to responsible AI.
Day 2 | Start with the problem
Assoc Professor Kenneth Ban and Adj Professor Ngiam Kee Yuan focused on data science, problem-framing and building clinical AI in the real world. Donβt start with AI. Start with the problem. Getting the problem, data, infrastructure and governance right can matter just as much as the model itself.
Day 3 | From precision to impact
Professor Dean Ho explored precision medicine, N-of-1 optimisation and translating innovation into meaningful health outcomes. More data does not necessarily mean better insight and even powerful interventions have limited impact without trust, adoption and action.
The masterclass concluded with an Executive Dialogue led by Adj Professor Ngiam Kee Yuan, reflecting on AI adoption, leadership and the road ahead for healthcare innovation.
Three days. Different perspectives. One recurring theme:
The technology may be ready. The bigger question is whether our organisations and our leaders are ready to turn it into meaningful change.
