Finding Power in Listening!

Do you know that to be a good listener, there are three levels of listening that can empower and even transform you?

1. Listening for things you know about.
- that's the most superficial level.

2. Listening for information
- you show curiosity, but your questions are about collecting factual data.
- that's also more about you and your interest

3. The deepest level of listening
- listening for experiences, feelings, motivations and values
- paying attention and endeavouring to understand
- demonstrated with echoing, paraphrasing, and asking clarifying questions

It goes without saying that effective communication brings many benefits: better understanding, develop trust, congenial relations, motivated employees, team coordination and productivity.

So we thought to share here our interview with stage, TV and film actor, author of the best selling book "Speak So Your Audience Will Listen", Robin Kermode, in case you are interested in "Communicating as a Leader" (all the more so given the complexities leaders face and pressure from employees for leaders to become more empathetic and transparent heralding a decline in the old fashion top-down leadership model).
