Many gifted children struggle to make friends due to their advanced language skills, emotional sensitivities, and preference for complex games. These children may feel socially isolated and even experience bullying. However, there are several ways parents can help their gifted children make connections with peers who share their interests and abilities.
Firstly, parents can arrange playdates based on shared interests and abilities, rather than age. This allows gifted children to interact with peers who are at a similar developmental level, which can make it easier for them to form connections.
Secondly, parents can look for enrichment programs that group children based on achievement level, rather than age. This ensures that gifted children are learning alongside peers who share their abilities and interests, which can foster positive social connections.
Finally, if gifted children are still struggling to make social connections despite these efforts, it may be necessary to seek professional help. A professional can help address any underlying issues that may be impacting the child's ability to form relationships with peers.

Choosing the right educational fit for your child can be a daunting task. It’s not just about enrolling them in the most expensive school or program, but rather finding an environment that matches your child's unique needs and learning style. As a parent, you need to consider many factors, such as standardized test scores, school rankings, class sizes, and teaching styles.
So, what should you consider when choosing an educational fit for your child? Firstly, look back at your own educational experiences and consider the positives and negatives of those experiences. Think about what you would have liked to have had in your education and how you can incorporate those things into your child's education.
Secondly, consider the importance of standardized test scores and school rankings. While it’s true that elite schools carry a certain amount of prestige, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are the right fit for your child. Children whose gifts are non-academic in nature, or who do not perform well in a stressful, competitive setting may struggle in an academic-focused environment. It's important to reflect honestly on your child's unique needs and gifts and whether they align with your goals for them.
To gain a better understanding of your child's unique needs, it may be helpful to seek an objective third-party perspective. You can ask questions such as, are your children performing above their age peers in their daily activities, or do they need an accelerated program of study? In what areas do your children demonstrate a talent or exceptional area of strength, such as academics, arts, technology, or athletics? Are your children twice-exceptional, and do they require specialized programming to support their learning differences? Do your children work well in a small or large environment? Do they struggle with transitions, and are peer relationships important to them?

Researchers have found a free and simple way to develop your children's brains. Instead of just talking to your children, have a conversation where both of you take turns to talk. It's not the quantity of words they hear, but the quality of the verbal interaction that influences their development of linguistic skills, cognitive abilities, and academic achievement. For toddlers, you can repeat and expand their sentences to increase their vocabulary. For older children, ask open-ended questions about things that interest them. Start conversing with your children today and build their brains and your bond with them without spending a single cent.

Parents believe that their children are gifted… and in a way, that is true. The issue is how being gifted is defined. When a society’s definition of giftedness doesn’t capture the children’s gifts and talents, parents and children are often left on the sidelines without resources to develop their potential.
In this webinar, our academic director will share her experience and expertise on the different aspects of giftedness and how you can support your children in developing their talents.
