As we welcome the Lunar New Year 2026, Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) reflects on a year of resilience, partnership and progress.
The koi, a symbol of perseverance and transformation, reminds us that meaningful growth requires both strength and direction. In 2026, AIC remains committed to advancing:
๐Ÿ”น Sustainable aquaculture systems
๐Ÿ”น Technology-driven innovation
๐Ÿ”น Industryโ€“research collaboration
๐Ÿ”น Regional and global partnerships
As the sector evolves, so must we โ€” with sharper focus, stronger ecosystems, and solutions that support long-term food security and environmental stewardship.
To our partners, researchers, innovators and industry stakeholders โ€” thank you for being part of this journey.
May the Year of the Horse bring bold momentum, clarity of vision, and shared success.

On 26 January 2026, the AIC team, together with our partners and local stakeholders, visited Kampung Bako Hilir, Sarawak to explore ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐š๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ under challenging weather conditions.

Despite torrential rain, the field visit allowed meaningful exchanges on mangrove-based aquaculture, community-led innovation, and nature-based solutions that balance food security, biodiversity, and local livelihoods.

This engagement reflects AICโ€™s ongoing commitment to:

- Bridging ๐ฌ๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ

- Advancing the ๐›๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž ๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ through responsible, on-the-ground collaboration

We are grateful to the experts, partners, and community leaders who made this visit impactful, and to the local community for their openness and resilience.

Progress doesnโ€™t pause for the weather โ€” it advances through shared purpose and trust.

As this month draws to a close, weโ€™re reminded of something simple but important.

Real innovation doesnโ€™t always show up as big announcements or rapid moves.
It often starts quietly โ€” with clarity of purpose, thoughtful preparation,
and consistency over time.

Thatโ€™s where AIC continues to focus:
doing the work that may not always be visible, but is essential for sustainable progress.

Sometimes, moving forward means slowing down โ€” and getting it right.

AIC at COP30: Showcasing Innovation for a Sustainable Aquaculture Future

At COP30 in Belรฉm, the Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) was proud to present our latest initiatives that demonstrate how science, technology, and practical collaboration can shape the future of sustainable aquaculture.

From improving production efficiency and water quality, to developing climate-resilient farming systems, AIC highlighted solutions that are not only research-driven, but ready for real-world application.

These projects reflect our commitment to advancing tropical aquaculture through innovation, partnerships, and capacity building โ€” ensuring food security and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.

A sincere thank-you to all partners, researchers, and supporters who continue to journey with us.
We look forward to bringing more impactful solutions to the region and the world.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has announced plans to open up 117 hectares of farming space off Pasir Ris, Pulau Ubin, and Pulau Tekong for tenders starting 2026 โ€” aiming for a production capacity of ๐Ÿ”,๐Ÿ•๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐Ÿ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐š๐ง๐ง๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ (up from 4,100 tonnes in 2023).
This magnitude of expansion presents a major opportunity for innovation in farming systems, sustainable practices, and environmental stewardship. As the industry scales, challenges such as open-cage vs closed systems, water quality management, and ecosystem protection will become even more critical.
