Not every bath cup gives you the same amount of control.

For a newborn, starting with a smaller cup can make it easier to control how much water you're pouring. As baby grows, you can move to a wider or larger rinse cup depending on the way you bathe your baby.

The important part isn't simply the size of the cup. It's being able to control the water comfortably while keeping baby's face and airway clear.

Save this before your baby's next bath.

Baby keeps getting their arms out of the swaddle? A ready-made swaddle can make the wrapping process easier for parents.

Doula Jemma shows how a ready-made swaddle can secure the upper body while still leaving appropriate room for baby's hips and legs to bend and move.

What baby-care technique should Jemma demonstrate next?

Leg or foot discomfort can happen during the postpartum period.

Doula Jemma shares two simple comfort practices she commonly recommends: keeping the feet comfortably warm with socks or slippers and using a warm foot soak.

Save this for your postpartum recovery.

Breast massage before feeding can be useful for some mothers, particularly when the breasts feel full.

In this video, we demonstrate three simple movements that can be done before bringing baby to the breast.

Massage shouldn't be painful or involve aggressive pressure.

If breastfeeding is painful, you're concerned about attachment or milk transfer, or feeding continues to feel difficult, individual lactation support may help.

Save this for your next feed.

There are certain little things you start noticing when you spend a lot of time visiting families with newborns.

For me, one of them is Aruvathaam Pachai.

I’ve seen this aromatic plant in many clients’ homes. Traditionally, some families like having it around during the newborn period for its fresh, pleasant aroma.

We prepare so much for baby, but I also love the idea of thinking about how the home feels for everyone spending those early weeks there.

Do you have Aruvathaam Pachai at home?

Is massage safe during pregnancy?

Prenatal massage can be an option for some pregnant women, but it isn't something we approach exactly like a regular massage.

If you have medical concerns or pregnancy complications, speak with your healthcare professional about whether massage is appropriate for you.

And when choosing a therapist, look for someone who understands prenatal massage and how positioning and technique need to be adapted during pregnancy.

At SEYOL, prenatal massage is available from 14 weeks of pregnancy.

Some days, the break between clients looks like this.

Grab some food, sit in the car, talk about everything and nothing, finish eating and head to the next client.

When you work together every day, these moments don't feel particularly important while they're happening.

Maybe one day, they will.

Getting a newborn into the shoulder-burping position can feel awkward when you're still learning.

The important part is keeping baby supported throughout the movement, especially around the head and neck, and bringing baby close to your body rather than making a large unsupported movement.

In this demonstration, the hand positioning is shown to bring baby up towards the shoulder.

Always handle newborns gently and make sure their head and neck remain supported.

Expecting? Save this for later.

Being handed a newborn can feel surprisingly awkward when you're still learning.

One thing that can help is reducing the distance between you and baby. Instead of reaching your arms far out, come closer, use your lap/body for support and make sure you have a secure hold before taking over.

With practice, newborn handling can start to feel much more natural.

Try this the next time you're handed a newborn.

A beautiful baby setup is nice. A setup that actually helps you when you need something quickly is better.

Keep the things you reach for regularly, such as diapers, creams, covers and toys, organised and easy to access.

Because once baby needs your attention, you don't want to be searching around the room for what you need.

Save this before setting up your baby station.
