Developing healthy minds help children to realise their fullest potential, maintain positive relationships and deal with life’s obstacles!
🎉 Celebrate their small achievements
Acknowledging your child’s efforts through praise, a simple hi-5 or hug, helps them to learn the significance of their achievement and makes them feel supported. This also builds their confidence and self-esteem!
💪🏻 Support and encourage their curiosity
Identify your child’s interests and encourage them. For example, if they show an interest in music, listen to music with them or make an instrument together! Children are also naturally curious. Answer their questions in a clear and concise manner according to their development. Before answering, prompt by asking them what their thoughts are.
👨👩👧👦 Have a self-care day together
Like adults, practicing self-care gives children a break from their daily routines, to take care of their mental, emotional and physical health. What can you do with your child? Practice yoga, discuss about emotions, encourage a healthy lifestyle, spending quality time together doing something you both enjoy or head outdoors to explore!
🥰 Learn their love language (and act on it)!
Do you know that children express or experience love and affection in different ways? To identify your child’s main love language, pay attention to how they show you love. They may enjoy hugs, saying "I love you", spending quality time together, receiving gifts or services.
Here are only some of the ways you can connect with your child based on their love language. There are also many other ways you can do so!
💫 Help your child set realistic goals
It is important for your child to understand and learn the skill of goal-setting, which teaches them to take responsibility of their own behaviour and learning!
Here’s how you can discuss goal-setting with them:
1. Let them choose their ultimate goal.
2. Discuss the purpose of their goal.
3. Break the big goal into smaller, achievable steps.
4. Encourage them to plan for potential obstacles along the way.
