Did you spot Ram Venkatesh at the National Day Parade yesterday?

Almost certainly not. While the nation watched the flypast, Ram was watching the skies.

As an Air Safety Management Assistant, he observed the designated airspace around Marina Barrage for unauthorised objects, from drones to balloons and anything else that might obstruct aerial activities. A small object in the wrong place can put both aircraft and spectators at risk, so Ram had to stay alert and report anything he saw. It is the part of NDP that works best when you never notice it.

Ram is also an NUS MBA student, and this was his second year volunteering. Months of weekend rehearsals ran alongside a full-time job and a full course load, which meant the weekends most of us spent resting, Ram spent looking up.

He came to Singapore from India for his MBA. Two National Days later, he is still turning up. Somewhere along the way, Singapore became more than a place to live and study. It became a place he wanted to give back to.

Growth often happens in the moments we least expect.

For Kimmy Yeo (BBA, Class of 2026), it was not just academics that shaped his NUS Business School journey. It was shaped by professors who inspired him beyond the classroom, friends who supported him through challenges, and opportunities that encouraged him to step outside his comfort zone.

A defining chapter of his university experience was the Student Exchange Programme in China, where Kimmy gained a newfound sense of independence and built new friendships.

As he graduates, Kimmy leaves with more than a degree. He leaves with lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences and memories that will stay with him long after commencement.

How much can life change in 10 years?

In 2016, Sukma Kesumo Widjaja was studying at a small university in Indonesia, eager to make the most of every opportunity but still uncertain about what the future would bring.

Fast forward to 2026, and that future has unfolded in ways he never imagined. Today, Sukma is graduating from NUS Business School with an MBA, living and working in Singapore, and celebrating milestones including completing his MBA and getting married.

Looking back, his message to his younger self is a powerful reminder:
"Trust the process. Keep moving forward. Never give up. You are far more capable than you realise."
