I was really excited about my upcoming trip to Japan and decided to look out for famous Japanese comics and artists.

Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama are my two favourite Japanese artists because I love the bold vibrant colors that Murakami uses, and his use of flat and the “superflat’ style which I similarly uses in my regular artworks. Yayoi Kusama also uses the same vibrant coloured style, with decorative motifs like dots and lines.

Hence, I decided to make an anime-style self portrait using a combination of Kusama’s motifs and dots like how she draws in her own portrait, enlarging my face larger than life, just to make myself a little comical like how Murakami likes it. And adding my favourite Japanese Sumikogurrachi characters into the background to complete the theme.

👏 Congratulations to one of our 8 global winners of the Jeune Pinceau International Young Artist Competition 2023 👏 , awarded the Prix < in autre regard > , Notable Creative Award . Dive into Emmanuel’s creative process below 👇

Name - Emmanuel Yan ( 7+ years old )
Title - The House of Tomorrow

“ I started creating this architectural piece of the new century under the idea where contemporary meets nature. I construct my imaginative idea initially by using lego to build the architectural design in my head. From there , I transferred the image to my tablet to find ways to make it more sense by adding more colours and sketches. And then taking it from my tablet to create my final draft of what I want my artwork to look like on paper, paint markers, ink and acrylic paints. So there are more process than just starting straight on paper. “

Description- “ My artwork seeks to bridge the gap between the ever-advancing realm of technology and the enduring beauty of nature. In this captivating piece set in the bustling metropolis of Toronto, Canada, the intricate balance between these two seemingly disparate elements becomes ap parent. The focal point of the artwork is a remarkable nature park, meticulously designed to serve not only as a serene sanctuary but also as a vibrant community hub and a haven for wildlife rehabilitation.

Comprising three magnificent structures and three serene ponds, this nature park represents a harmonious amalgamation of human innovati on and environmental preservation. Of particular note is a visionary habitat, thoughtfully crafted to provide an exceptional living space for the beloved Birds of Toronto, gracefully portrayed in the background. It is through endeavors like this that we aim to inspire people, reminding them that even amidst the sprawling megacities we inhabit, there remains an undeniable need for nature to thrive alongside us.
An evocative image emerges as the park connector effortlessly traverses a bustling intersection, transforming the mundane notion of a crosswalk into an artistically profound symbol. Serving as a constant reminder to all citizens, it whispers softly that nature's splendor is still very much alive and flourishing amidst the concrete jungles we have constructed. Within this juxtaposition, we find solace and a deep appreciation for the immeasurable beauty that can only be discovered in the natural world. “
