Did your parents let you help out in the kitchen?

I help tired, overwhelmed mummies stay calm and patient in the chaos of motherhood

We had one job: film the second clip…
But apparently that was too ambitious. 🫠

When we approached her brother, he was understandably upset because nobody likes being “called out,” especially by a sibling.
So I started with:
“You’re not in trouble. Your sister has something to share because she cares.”
This small shift softened the mood right away. It wasn’t about blame or shame, it was about understanding each other.
It wasn’t perfect.
There were still some grumbles and eye-rolls, but by the end, they both felt heard.
That’s the part that matters to me—not forcing them to like each other, but teaching them how to respect each other, even when it’s hard.
Tattling isn’t the enemy.
It’s a chance to guide them and I’m learning right alongside them.
💬 What’s your go-to response when your kids call each other out?

Growing up, discipline meant fear… loud voices, strict punishments, and little room for emotions.
That’s all I knew.
But when I became a mum, I realized I didn’t want my kids to fear me; I wanted them to trust me.
It wasn’t easy to unlearn what I grew up with.
Staying calm when every instinct told me to yell felt impossible some days.
But I kept trying… practicing firmness and kindness, one moment at a time.
Now? My kids know I mean what I say, but they also know I’m their safe space.
Of course, it’s not perfect, I’m not perfect but it’s changed everything.
What was discipline like when you were a kid? Are you finding yourself doing things differently now? 🧡

Here’s the truth ⤵️
Sibling fights rarely have just one “innocent victim” and one “guilty party.”
Both sides play a role.
The old me tried to referee…
It didn’t fix anything and it just left us all feeling worse.
Now?
I guide, not judge. I connect, not control.
And we all learn a little more each time.

Making mistakes is something my kids have experienced at home—they know it’s part of life and that actions have consequences.
But this real-world moment at the airport hit differently. It turned a familiar lesson into one they’ll remember, leaving an impression far deeper than any words could.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from the Tans! 🎄✨
December has been a whirlwind—from last-minute packing to soaking in the magic of Japan, then rushing back into Christmas celebrations and endless parties. Honestly, we’re still catching our breath.
But even in the chaos, there was so much joy, laughter, and memory-making. 🥰
Now, we’re back and attempting to switch gears for school routines… in two days. Wish us luck!
Here’s a glimpse of our Japan adventures:
1-2 - Second ski trip for the big kids: They had a coach and were zooming down the slopes by day one. Natural skiers!
3 - A serendipitous meal: We found a tiny restaurant run by the sweetest elderly couple. Communication was tricky, but Google Translate saved the day. The food? Absolutely worth it.
4 - Owakudani Valley adventure: Braving the icy winds to see Mt. Fuji and some volcanic activity. So breathtaking (and freezing!).
5 - First onsen experience: My 6-year-old handled it like a pro—proud mum moment right there!
6 - Parenting wins: Despite tantrums and tired legs, the kids rocked the walking and luggage-hauling.
7 - All things kawaii: Pokémon and Sanrio stores + cafe visits were a dream for the kids.
8-11 - Snow fun galore: Snow angels, snowball fights, and snowmen-building—all the winter magic.
12 - Yukata moments: Seeing the girls in traditional attire was so special. 🥰
And before the year wraps up, I just want to say how grateful I am for YOU. 🧡 To this incredible community of mums (and dads)—thank you for being here, for your support, and for sharing this journey of parenthood with me. Your messages, comments, and presence mean more than I can put into words.
December felt like a marathon, but it’s one we’ll always remember.
