UAS In Conversation with Josephine “Obin” Komara

The University of the Arts Singapore (UAS) presents “The Perfect Cloth: The Living Art of Batik Design”, bringing one of Southeast Asia's most acclaimed textile designers to Singapore.

Through her pioneering work and lifelong dedication to batik, Obin has elevated batik beyond textile making, seamlessly weaving tradition and modernity to create a globally recognised model of artistic and creative expression.

Join us for an evening of artistic discovery and enriching exchange as Obin shares her journey in transforming a traditional Indonesian craft into an internationally acclaimed art form and her perspectives on the way forward.

This National Day, we're celebrating the Singapore hiding in plain sight.​

The $50 note in your wallet, the MRT map you check every day, the Singapore Airlines uniform recognised the world over: all true icons of Singapore, often without anyone realising it.​

That's the story of every generation here: creatives quietly building how a nation looks, moves, and feels. This SG61, we're celebrating that legacy, and training the next wave of creatives to carry it forward at UAS.​

As Singapore goes beyond, so will they. 🎉​

On 7 August 2026, the University of the Arts Singapore will mark its inaugural Commencement, bringing together graduands from LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) for a historic celebration.

The UAS, LASALLE and NAFA Commencement will be followed by separate Convocation ceremonies hosted by LASALLE and NAFA, honouring the achievements of the Class of 2026 as they receive their degrees.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone with our graduands, families and friends!

Congratulations to our 2026 NAC-UAS Arts Scholarship recipients! ✨

In partnership with the National Arts Council Singapore (NAC), the NAC-UAS Arts Scholarship is a joint scholarship established between the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS) and NAC to nurture outstanding students enrolled in UAS undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to develop the next generation of arts leaders in Singapore.
