No one truly knows what the future holds.

But anyone with the right tools and a long-term approach can prepare for it anyway.

With that very goal in mind, we're excited bring back the “Anticipatory Policy Innovation and Decision Making” programme. This programme, run in collaboration with Finnish think tank Demos Helsinki, brings together the accumulated expertise of policymakers, scholars, and thought leaders from countries known for their mature foresight systems and innovative approach to policy.

We'll think deeply about institutionalising anticipation and Futures Thinking in policymaking. We'll help you create concrete strategies for incorporating foresight into your organisation's strategic planning.

Sometimes, the best policy lessons begin by stepping outside the classroom.

Over the course of an immersive learning journey in Singapore, our Seoul Metropolitan Government participants explored how technology, public policy and social innovation come together to address some of the most pressing challenges facing societies today — from digital transformation and AI to ageing and social inclusion.

The journey took them behind the scenes of Singapore’s public sector and social ecosystem. They heard from expurbanerts from AI Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, GovTech Singapore and the National Council of Social Service, explored Singapore’s digital strategy at Smart Nation CityScape, and visited One-North to see how research, technology and start-ups are shaping new possibilities.

They also experienced how policies translate into our everyday lives — from ServiceSG’s one-stop service experience and The Food Bank Singapore’s efforts to redistribute food fairly, to Housing & Development Board’s Community Care Apartments and Kampung Admiralty, where integrated development supports an ageing population.

But perhaps the most meaningful part of the journey came through reflection.

As participants considered Singapore’s policies and national schemes, they asked an important question: What can they take home, and how might these ideas be adapted to their own context?

That is what makes a learning journey more than a visit.

It is about seeing policy in action, exchanging perspectives, asking new questions — and returning home with ideas that might inspire change.

At the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Executive Education, we are privileged to create spaces where policymakers and leaders can learn from one another and turn insights into action.

The Essentials of Policy Development (Run 26) has come to a successful conclusion!

Over four days, 22 participants hailing from Dubai, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, and Singapore came together to explore the Policy Development Process. Representing diverse backgrounds across the public and private sectors, participants brought unique perspectives that enriched classroom discussions and exchanges.

Our programme began with Prof Eduardo Araral, who provided an overview of Public Policy Landscape. Prof Marina Kaneti then explored the Design, Assessment, and Evaluation of Public Policy. Participants also delved into Communication, Economics, and Complexity in Public Policies with our esteemed faculty members, Prof Leong Ching, Prof Lawrence Jin, and Dr Adrian Kuah, respectively. This was followed by sessions on Stakeholder Management with Lewis Liu and Data Analytics with Derrick Cham. We extend our sincere appreciation to all our faculty members and speakers for sharing their expertise, and for making the learning journey an incredible one for all our participants.

A key highlight of the programme was the visit to the TuasOne Waste-to-Energy Plant. Participants gained insights into Singapore’s waste management approach and the role of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable solutions.

We are grateful to our participants, speakers and faculty, and partners for making EPD26 a rewarding learning experience. At LKYSPP, we look forward to continuing to connect policy ideas with practice and creating more opportunities for meaningful exchange.

Last week the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education hosted senior leaders from the National Leadership Academy Somalia (NLA) and representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia for an Executive Leadership Study Tour in Singapore.

The study tour focused on four key areas: executive education governance and design, public sector leadership development, youth leadership programmes, case-based learning and external engagement. Through discussions with LKYSPP faculty and practitioners, delegates gained practical insights and explored institutional models that could be adapted to support NLA's development and Somalia’s context.

The delegation also engaged with the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore, NUS Institute of Systems Science (NUS-ISS) and NUS School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (SCALE) to learn about other approaches to continuing education, public sector training, and youth development in Singapore.

We thank the delegates for their active participation and our faculty and speakers for generously sharing their expertise.

We look forward to seeing the National Leadership Academy Somalia empower and equip a new generation of leaders to advance the country's aspirations for peace, prosperity, and inclusive governance.
