In partnership with the Philippine Society of General Surgeons, Inc. (PSGS), Kyalio is proud to announce the launch of Virtual Reality Initiative for Training and Education in Surgery (VRITES) in The Philippines.

VRITES is a virtual reality surgical education programme to bolster the learning materials available to GS programmes. It contains case contributions from the best surgeons in The Philippines and around the world. VR allows learners to observe masters as work in their theatres as if they were really present for the surgery.

VRITES helps overcome geographical and resource barriers, giving surgeons all across country a leg up in their training.

VRITES is now available for surgical residency programme adoption.

Joo Chiat, home to Kyalio for 4 years. It is a beautiful heritage building, converted to a co-working space with the touch of peranakan culture. Standing in front of Kyalio, the left stretches into Geylang Serai, a vibrant hub of Malay culture, and the follows a sea scented trail to East Coast. This location has diverse food choices; and continues to evolve as modern and trendy cafes come in.

June 2024 marks a new chapter for Kyalio. We are moving to the Central Business District. Itself also a historical area. But we will forever remember the memories we built in Joo Chiat, those challenging times and those small breakthrough moments that led to the growth of Kyalio team.

Kyalio dedicates effort in supporting our collaborators to produce valuable research in the sphere of education. This cohort study, a collaboration between Kyalio and surgeons from Singapore National Neuroscience Institute, “Immersive Virtual Reality as a Surgical Training Tool: A Cohort Study,” has been accepted by Heliyon, an Elsevier Journal. It has been a pleasure to be part of the research process and we look forward to continuing the advancements in surgical education practice.

In late September, our co-founder, Cortilia Lin was awarded as one of “Ten Outstanding Overseas Young Persons” by the Overseas Compatriot Culture and Education Foundation, established under Overseas Community Affairs Council, ROC (Taiwan). The award recognizes overseas Taiwanese who have made significant contributions in the countries they call a second home. Well done Cortilia for representing Kyalio and on to greater heights!

Last week, Kyalio was invited to deliver a workshop session on Virtual Reality in Surgical Education at Mumbai Surgical Society's "Recent Advances in Surgery" CME Event. During the session we shared about the driving forces for the adoption of VR in surgical education and lessons on VR implementation.

We would like to thank Dr. Rajesh Yadav, President MSS, and the leadership of MSS for the warm invite and organising the event, as well as the Faculty of the General Surgery Department, GMC Sir JJ Hospital for hosting this event as well.

Embark on a VR surgical journey through Uzbekistan and a delightful collaboration with knowledgeable local experts - the ultimate way to immerse oneself in the rich tapestry of this fascinating country!

A wonderful conclusion to AWR Deep Impact 2023. Our VR surgical education hit a chord with many attendees, showing just how possible the once impossible has become. Look out for us as we continue to deepen our tracks in the great country of India!

During the last week of February, Kyalio conducted a VR workshop segment as part of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia's (ELSA) Outreach Programme in Cebu and organised by Dr. Henry Chua of Cebu Doctors University Hospital. We are proud to provide a global learning perspective to the participants of this workshop. See you again soon, Cebu!

Kyalio X ELSA Outreach Program (Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia). The first VR hybrid training workshop at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Some things returned to normal but immersive technologies are permanently changing how cross-border training could be delivered. Kyalio is honoured to be joined by 24 surgeons for an engaging and exciting day to open 2023. Looking forward to next visit to Colombo.

ASICON 2022 has been great for Kyalio! Our first ever conference exhibit in India received hundreds of visitors with a strong sign-up rate. We also spoke with many industry friends and potential partners. After 4 days on our feet, we are ready for a Sunday break and keen to see everyone again in 2023. Happy Holidays!
