🌈 At Straits Waldorf School, Easter was a gentle and joyful celebration of renewal, creativity, and togetherness.

Throughout the week, our children worked with their hands and hearts, creating many kinds of eggs such as crochet, shell, wooden, and felt. Each piece was unique and filled with care. No eggs were wasted, only lovingly transformed through imagination.

There was laughter in the classrooms, moments of quiet focus, and a growing sense of wonder as the days passed. The children truly had a beautiful time in school.

We ended the week at the Botanical Gardens, where children, parents, and teachers came together as one community. Surrounded by nature, it was a simple and meaningful way to celebrate Easter and the joy of being together.

A week full of warmth, creativity, and heartfelt moments that we will carry with us. 🌿

Grade 3 - Creation Story Block. It began as nothing, a quiet page, a held breath, a single stream of light.

Water meets pigment and something stirs. Colour drifts, not rushed, not commanded, only gently becoming. Edges soften, shapes appear and disappear, and the hand learns to follow rather than lead. Each wash carries a small surprise, a moment that could not have been planned.
So too with the birth of a theme. It does not arrive fully formed. It glimmers first as a feeling, a trace, a question that lingers just beyond words. Like light moving through water, it bends and deepens, revealing itself slowly. Layer by layer, translucent and alive, a story begins to breathe.

In this way we learn that beginnings are quiet.
That not knowing is a kind of opening.
That beauty comes when we allow space for it to enter. What seemed like emptiness was never empty.

It was listening.
It was waiting.
It was already full of light.

“In the light that streams from spirit heights,
Be strength for my soul to find its sight.
In the love that warms through heart and soul,
Be power to make my being whole.”
— Rudolf Steiner

Barefoot by the padi field, our children paused and watched the water hold the sky.

At Bollywood Farms, learning stepped out of the classroom and into the living earth. The children listened to stories of how food grows, touched the soil, and saw how sun, water, and care come together quietly over time.

There was wonder in their eyes and a calm attentiveness in their steps. What they had heard in stories and written in their books became something they could feel and remember.

As we close our Farming and Land block, we carry this experience with us. A deeper respect for the land, and a simple gratitude for all that sustains us.

At The Straits Waldorf School, the week unfolded in gentle preparation, like a quiet weaving of hands, hearts, and tradition.

The older children learned to weave coconut leaves into ketupat, taking their time with each fold and movement. Nearby, the younger children worked with care and joy, creating their own simple coasters with small, focused hands.

From our parent community came the warm and comforting fragrance of lontong, lovingly prepared and shared. It carried with it the richness of Singapore’s Malay heritage and the spirit of giving.

We gathered together in song, in laughter, and in quiet moments of connection. Teachers, children, and parents sat as one, sharing not only a meal but a sense of belonging and togetherness.

With heartfelt gratitude, we thank our parent volunteers. Your presence, care, and generosity made this celebration truly meaningful for our whole community.

The Straits Waldorf School wishes all our Muslim friends and families a beautiful and peaceful Eid Mubarak.

At the close of the holy month of Ramadan, when the new moon is sighted and the days of fasting come gently to an end, Muslim families around the world gather in gratitude and joy to celebrate Eid.

May this blessed time be filled with light, generosity, and the warmth of togetherness.
Like the quiet rising of the moon that marks the festival, may peace shine softly in every home and may hearts be renewed with kindness and hope.

With warmest wishes for a joyous and meaningful celebration.

The Morning Circle

Every morning in a Waldorf classroom begins with rhythm.

Children gather to sing, move, recite verses, and greet the day together. These moments help awaken the body, focus the mind, and strengthen the feeling of belonging within the class.

Before academic work begins, the children first arrive fully into the day.

Learning grows best when the whole child is ready.

A Meaningful Visit to The Straits Waldorf School 🌸

Today, we had the honour of welcoming Mr. Andrew Hill, CEO of Steiner Education Australia, to our school for a friendly and inspiring visit.

Our Director, Ms. Viknes Kadirval, met with Mr. Hill, and what began as a simple conversation naturally unfolded into hours of heartfelt sharing. They spoke about the early history of Straits Waldorf School, reflected on the education system in Singapore, and explored how Waldorf and Steiner education offers something truly different for children growing up in today’s world.

They also discussed the growing need for a more holistic and child-centred approach in the current landscape. It was encouraging to exchange thoughts on the trends that point towards the growing relevance and importance of Waldorf education today.

The meeting was meaningful, warm and deeply encouraging for all of us. We are grateful to Mr. Hill for his thoughtful insights and the genuine interest he showed in our community.

Thank you for visiting The Straits Waldorf School. We look forward to welcoming you again!
