I went to a city park two weeks ago and got to see this colorful array of "street food" being sold in one of the little stores lined up inside the park. Can you recognize what they are? There are many kinds of street food in the Philippines, but the most common and cheapest ones are called "kwek-kwek'" (quail eggs covered in batter and fried), "kikiam" (Filipino version of the Chinese Ngoh Hiang), "squid balls" and "fish balls". Can you guess where they are in the photo? Street food are a popular, cheap snack that one can enjoy along the streets in the Philippines, but has also started to be served in little kiosks in malls too. My personal favorite are those little orange "kwek-kwek", and I love eating them soaked in spicy vinegar with onions! Are there any street food in your country? Share it in the comments!

Summer is in the Philippines and it’s hot, hot, hot! When the temperature goes up, it’s time to cool down with some sweet summer treats. Did you know Filipino kids love playing traditional outdoor games? I used to play a lot outdoor especially during summer.

This game is called Kadang-Kadang! It uses long wooden or bamboo stilts, and everyone has to step at the same time to move forward. If one person goes too fast or too slow… oops! The whole team might wobble or fall! 😄

Kadang-Kadang is not just fun — it helps kids practice balance, listening skills, and working together as a team. It’s a great way to build friendship while learning how to move in sync with others.

In our ESL classes, we love teaching English through culture, games, and exciting activities like this. Learning becomes easier and more memorable when you connect it to real-life experiences!
