On our final day in Bangkok, students deepened their appreciation of Thai culture through a traditional dance experience. They learnt how to wear a traditional Thai sarong and were introduced to the graceful movements and symbolic hand gestures used in Thai dance. Students discovered how different positions of the thumb and index finger convey meaning and emotion, reflecting the elegance and storytelling elements embedded within Thai performing arts.

Students also participated in a Science lesson on changes in matter. They observed a lollipop mixture transform from liquid to solid and learnt about physical changes in matter. They further explored how a sweet lollipop mainly demonstrates a physical change, while a bitter lollipop may involve both physical and chemical changes that affect its taste and properties. Students then created their own colourful lollipops using food dyes, applying scientific concepts through hands-on experimentation.

Another highlight of the day was Qifa’s performance of a Singapore National Day song about pursuing dreams and aspirations. Anubanphibunwes’ school staff and students joined in the mass dance, creating a joyful celebration of the friendships and memories forged throughout the exchange programme. The shared experience highlighted how music and dance can bring people together despite differences in language and culture.

The programme concluded with a meaningful gift exchange ceremony between the Director of Anubanphibunwes School and Qifa’s Vice-Principal. Students from both schools also exchanged gifts with their buddies as tokens of friendship and appreciation. Through these interactions, students gained valuable insights into one another’s cultures, strengthened cross-cultural bonds, and left with cherished memories and hopes of meeting again in the future.

As the learning journey came to an end, students returned home with not only new knowledge and experiences, but also a deeper appreciation of cultural diversity, meaningful friendships, and the power of international connections.

The cultural learning continued with a visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Students learned about the origins of Thailand’s capital city name and gained deeper insights into the nation’s history and identity. They were also introduced to the Ramayana (Ramakien) and discovered its significant influence on Thai culture, art, literature, architecture, and traditional performances. The intricate murals and artwork around the palace grounds brought these stories to life and highlighted important values such as courage, loyalty, and righteousness.

A key highlight of the visit was seeing the Emerald Buddha, a sacred statue carved from a single piece of jade. Students learned about its religious and cultural significance as one of Thailand’s most revered national treasures and a symbol of faith and devotion.

Overall, the day provided a rich blend of cultural appreciation, friendship-building, and experiential learning. Through games, classroom immersion, cooking, and visits to historical landmarks, students deepened their understanding of Thai culture while strengthening international friendships and developing into more globally aware and culturally sensitive individuals.

Day 3 began with a warm welcome at Anubanphibunwes School, where students observed a traditional Thai merit-making practice and learned about local customs and values. This was followed by a school presentation, a welcome address by the school director, and an engaging Khon dance performance that introduced students to Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

One of the highlights of the day was the bonding games hosted by Qifa Primary School. Students introduced traditional childhood games such as Country Eraser and Pick-Up Sticks to their Thai buddies. These simple yet meaningful games brought much excitement and laughter as students interacted, communicated, and learned from one another. More importantly, the activities helped to strengthen friendships between students from Singapore and Thailand, breaking down language barriers and fostering mutual respect, teamwork, and cultural appreciation.

The students then participated in classroom immersion sessions. During the Mathematics lesson, they learned about fractions alongside their Thai peers. Through this experience, students observed how mathematical concepts are taught in a different educational setting and developed greater adaptability and openness to diverse learning approaches.

Another memorable experience was the hands-on cooking session where students learned to make Bua Loy, a traditional Thai dessert consisting of colourful glutinous rice flour balls served in sweet coconut milk. Through the activity, students gained an appreciation of Thai culinary traditions while developing practical life skills such as following instructions, teamwork, patience, and creativity.

After a hearty buffet breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead, students began their learning journey at Suan Sampran. They explored natural pigments derived from plants and flowers such as butterfly pea, turmeric, hibiscus and bean leaves to create their own canvas bag designs. They also crafted personalised aroma oil bottles using dried flowers and natural scents such as lemongrass, jasmine and mint, learning how nature can be transformed into sustainable everyday products.

The learning continued with an introduction to organic rice farming, where students discovered traditional and modern methods of harvesting rice and separating grains from their husks. Through hands-on activities, they gained a deeper appreciation for the hard work and dedication of farmers who help put food on our tables every day.

The students also visited Museum Siam in Phra Nakhon. Through interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences, they explored the concept of “Thainess” and learnt how Thailand’s culture, traditions and identity have evolved over time. The museum experience encouraged students to reflect on the importance of cultural heritage and national identity. By drawing comparisons between Thai and Singaporean cultures, they developed a greater appreciation for diversity and the value of preserving traditions.

From sustainable living and traditional farming to discovering Thailand’s rich cultural identity, Day 2 provided meaningful opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom and broaden their global perspectives.

Beyond the classroom, students broadened their perspectives by observing cultural practices firsthand and learning about the values that have shaped Thai society.

The learning continued through food as students sampled a variety of authentic Thai dishes, experiencing the flavours and traditions that are an important part of everyday life in Thailand. Throughout the day, they also developed important life skills such as adaptability, curiosity, and confidence as they navigated a new environment together. Most importantly, students strengthened friendships, supported one another, and created unforgettable memories, making Day 1 a truly enriching start to their overseas learning journey.

Our Cub Scouts attended the launch of the Singapore Scout Association’s Job Week 2026 at Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore School (West) today.

The boys had a meaningful opportunity to interact with the students through various activities and service tasks. They supported classroom activities, helped repair books and engaged the students through games and station activities. It was encouraging to see the boys demonstrate care, patience and initiative throughout the programme.

The experience gave the Scouts a deeper appreciation of empathy, service and the importance of contributing positively to the community.
