[ Sang Nila Utama Dari Opera Academy! 🧡 ]

And so we closed our 2026 first-half Sang Bila Utama Bangsawan Pantomime season with bang at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content event at the National Library at Bugis.

This colourful, vibrant Bangsawan Pantomime show had seen its multiple stagings since end of April and reached a multitude of viewers - young and old. We were honoured to have been invited to these signature events to stage the show:

⭐️ Pesta Pecah Panggung at Taman Warisan Melayu,
⭐️ Singapore Heritage Festival at Asian Civilisation Museum, and
⭐️ ReadySetLearn Event by Mendaki at Hong Kah North CC.

We wish to thank also all the parents of our young Bangsawan cast for their support and encouragement to the performers. Without them, their journey would not have been possible.

Till we meet again - let’s keep our intangible cultural heritage flag flying high! 🧡⭐️🌟🎭

Catch the return of our Bangsawan Pantomime Sang Nila Utama this Sg Heritage Fest, at the outdoors next Friday and Saturday, as we step into the world of ancient maritime storytelling.

We’ll take you through to witness the drama of seafaring voyagers, the symbolism of the sea in Malay culture, and the powerful role of migration in shaping our national identity.

Come rediscover our origins, connections and community through Bangsawan. 🧡

[ Pesta Pecah Panggung 🎬🎭 ]

Super honoured to grace the Panggung at Malay Heritage Centre’s reopening Pesta. Our Bangsawan Youth came in might, to showcase their prowess and owning the stage to proudly present a Bangsawan Pantomime piece, Sang Nila Utama.

It felt surreal to bring back Bangsawan on the very site used to be known for Wayang Orang at the old Kampong Jawa precinct in Kampong Gelam. It was a significant moment especially, as we brought the younger generation to perform here, as if to reconnect the community of the area’s operatic past.

Opera Academy hopes to do more of similar features in Kampong Gelam, to bring back the rich tapestry of Bangsawan for more to enjoy, and learn from. 🧡
