Foundation vs International Year One — what’s the difference?
Both can provide pathways towards university study, but they normally start at different points in the university journey.
A Foundation Programme usually helps students prepare academically before entering Year 1 of an eligible degree.
An International Year One (IYO) is typically a first-year-level pathway that combines academic study with additional support, with potential progression to Year 2 of an eligible degree.
Which pathway may be more suitable depends on factors such as your current qualifications, intended course, academic readiness and available university options.
The route that appears faster is not necessarily the right route for every student. What matters is finding a pathway that fits your academic background and study goals.
