For Wai Mun, seeing 5-year-old Rylie reach for books more often has been one of the loveliest changes in her reading journey.

But for her, starting young is about more than learning to read. It’s about building a strong foundation early, so Rylie can step into Primary 1 and the years ahead feeling more prepared and confident.

Since joining I Can Read, Rylie has also become more independent with her reading, while discovering that books can be something to genuinely enjoy. And having a warm, encouraging environment where she feels comfortable learning at her own pace has made the journey even more meaningful.

As Wai Mun puts it, starting young sets the foundation for a brighter future. ❤️

The fundamentals are still important… grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and writing aren’t going anywhere. But today, simply knowing the rules isn’t enough.

Students are increasingly expected to put their English skills to work: understanding meaning and context, developing their ideas, choosing the right words, and communicating clearly across reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Think less “Do I know this?” and more “Can I use what I know?”
