Stay home, we deliver!
In response to the rise in community cases, TADA Fresh Market has implemented Contactless Collection in the daily operational process to minimise contact between the collection crew and the stallholders in the markets. โฃ
โฃ
With effect from today, the collection team will NOT enter the markets. The stalls we are partnering up with will deliver groceries to our sorting centre and leave them in a stipulated drop-off area, with no contact with the people in the sorting centre. โฃ
โฃ
For the stalls who donโt have the extra hands to facilitate this process, they will transport the orders to a safe unloading zone and the similar contactless collection protocol ensues. โฃ
โฃ
The delivery team perform daily testing with self-test kits before going out for deliveries.โฃ
โฃ
TADA Fresh Market will continue supporting local markets and the stallholders by connecting them with our growing number of โdigital market-goersโ! We hope this newly-implemented contactless collection protocol will give the fresh produce lovers peace of mind while protecting everyone in this mini ecosystem.โฃ

Love broccolis? You have to stop and check out this steal! Victor, the guy who is running the biggest vegetable stall at Tekka (anyone remember the curated Mushroom Bento from last year's livestream? ๐) is letting go a (big) crate of Australia Broccoli at merely $1 per piece.
A Broccoli eater knows that an average size of broccoli would costs you $2 or more and we called this a "steal" for a good reason. The price-slashing is the way to take care of an unexpected surplus. Snatching this $1 Australia Broccoli does not only make your broccoli-loving heart feel full, but also help reducing potential food waste. ๐ฅฆ๐ฅฆ๐ฅฆ

"There is no future being a hawker".
These were the words told to Uncle Khiang when he was merely 10 by his school principal. Now, more than 50 years on, he still vividly remembers this comment and recounts to us every time we visit his stall. Uncle Khiang started his wet market career from a young age. He admits that he was not academically inclined. Weighing a bag of silverfish as he was speaking to us, he smiled and said that he was, however, adept at numbers. While he may hold a dim prospect of this business, it has already taken him through five decades.
Uncle Khiang runs Hai Kee, a dry and preserved goods store at a corner of Tekka Wet Market, all by himself - unlike other stalls who may have an additional hand from their second or third generation. He remarked that he may close his business when he retires in five years. Customers who visit his stall are often elated from finding ingredients that they thought has been lost from Singapore's trail.
We want to help Uncle Khiang and more people like him, letting them enjoy the benefits of going online. We hope that this additional avenue will support the longevity of these businesses.
If you are looking for dried goods (Buah Keluak, Dried Scallops, Dried Mushrooms, etc) check out the products from Hai Kee via TADA Fresh Market!

How long will wet markets be around?โฃ
โฃ
We are not sure. Itโs akin to the debate about whether brick-and-mortar retail will continue thriving when everyoneโs shopping online - except that our wet markets are left far behind in the wave of digitalisation.โฃ
โฃ
After the independence of Singapore in 1965, street hawkers were โre-housedโ into purpose-built facilities which are known today as wet markets cm hawker centres.โฃ
โฃ
With the entry of supermarkets since 1980s, wet markets have been facing the biggest challenge ever. They are failing to attract young customers for obvious reasons. Wet markets open early in a day and are closed by mid-afternoon. The odd hours are driving working adults away who certainly have plenty of options for grocery shopping. โฃ
โฃ
We may still feel a sentimental attachment to wet markets but for many of us, thereโs no longer a reason to step into one.โฃ
โฃ
On the other hand, many long-standing wet market stalls are family business passed down by generations. If the younger generation see no prospect of growth and thus decide not to take over the business, the family legacy will soon be let go and our well loved wet market stalls will disappear one day.โฃ
โฃ
As we wrapped up this post, the answer to the opening question presented itself - we are the answer. Wet markets will stay as long as we allow them to be part of our lives.โฃ
