Last week, I was encouraging one of my classes to study harder because it's Term 4 and the exams are coming and they've been somewhat unmotivated.

Then out of the blue, I came up with a sentence which sounded pretty inspirational - "If it's not easy doing it, it's worth earning it."

The students wowed and ohhh-ed upon hearing it... until one of them boys cheekily remarked, "Mr Mel. Such a nice quote. You should have it on your tombstone next time."

Haha. Right. 'Next time.'

Meanwhile, a nice 13 years ago...

I read somewhere that says teachers are the architects of the nation because we teach all professions. So very true.

Case in point : it's immensely rewarding to see the professional poise and skillful finesse of my ex student, Dr. Seraphina Goh, working at with our boy who's lying there (and squirming just a wee bit) on her dental chair.

She has definitely come a long way from her Sec / College days of being meek and unassuming in my class.

Congratulations once again, May you continue to bloom in this exemplary profession of yours! And thanks for all your dental tips. We'll certainly follow up on them! Cheers!
