If you're new to Singapore, you'll relate — Singlish can be SO confusing at first! 😰
So our Global Student Ambassadors swooped in with a Singlish Workshop for our exchangers, giving a crash course on the lingo. 😉
In just one afternoon, our exchangers walked out speaking like true Singaporeans, and a few lucky ones even scored an Exchanger Tee or Singapore-themed souvenirs along the way! 🏆
Thank you everyone, for your enthusiastic participation! We hope you've picked up a word or two to bring home to your friends and family. 🇸🇬
NUS Global
Going global, bringing you the best study abroad experience possible!
Week 1 and we've already hosted the BIGGEST event of the semester so far. 🎉🍵
Our orientation series continued with the Welcome Tea, where exchangers got to know NUS and Singapore a little better through exciting stage games and game booths — walking away with exclusive exchangers tee and Singapore-themed plush keyrings!🎤🎪
But that wasn't all! Our exchangers mingled and got to know each other through human bingo, all while snacking on tea-time refreshments and popcorn. 🍿🤤
We hope this event allowed everyone to meet fellow exchangers (and maybe find a travel buddy along the way). 😉
What a great start to the semester! 🤩
Over the past two days, our staff and Global Student Ambassadors met over 2000 students eager to learn more about study abroad opportunities and the financial support available. 🌍✈️
Got your questions answered? AY27/28 SEP and winter applications open soon, so now's the time to start planning. 😉

Exchangers, welcome to Singapore! ❤️🦁
Orientation week was a lot of walking—but what better way to explore a local neighbourhood and campus than by foot? 🚶👣
For Makan & Mall Clementi Crawl, our exchangers went on a bingo hunt around the neighbourhood, ticking off the settling-in essentials and uncovering Singapore's status as a food paradise. 🤤
Once they've got everything they needed, it was time to tackle campus. "The Around the School Tour" helped our exchangers find their way around NUS. (Though "I got lost" won't fly as an excuse for being late to class anymore! 😉)
A big thank you to our exchangers for showing up with enthuasiasm, jet lag and all! ✈️ We hope everyone managed to make friends along the way!

📌 University leaders from across Southeast Asia gathered in Singapore last week for the 17th ASEAN University Network ( ) Rectors' Meeting and the 41st AUN Board of Trustees (BOT) Meeting!
🌏 Hosted by at Grand Hyatt Singapore, one big question was on the table: how ASEAN universities can champion student-centred leadership?
🎙️ Three university presidents took the floor for the opening keynotes:
🔹 Prof Tan Eng Chye (National University of Singapore) set the stage with insights on global positioning and partnerships
🔹 Br Bernard Oca (De La Salle University) turned the focus to well-being and holistic student development
🔹 Prof Pongruk Sribanditmongkol (มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ Chiang Mai University) looked ahead to what it takes to build future-ready universities
💬 Breakout sessions translated key themes into actionable recommendations on student-centred leadership, digital transformation, and student well-being. The sessions were moderated by Dr Hazri Kifle (Universiti Brunei Darussalam), Prof Ova Emilia (Universitas Gadjah Mada), and Br Bernard Oca (De La Salle University), with rapporteurs Assoc Prof Lum Sau Kim (NUS Global Relations), Prof Wening Udasmoro (Universitas Gadjah Mada), and Prof Yvonne Lim (Universiti Malaya) synthesising the discussions and recommendations.
✨ NUS colleagues also presented two proposals:
🌱 Prof Koh Lian Pin (National University of Singapore, Faculty of Science; NUS Sustainability) introduced a Planetary Boundaries Science and Solutions Hub for Southeast Asia, paving the way for nations to chart their own path toward sustainability and resilience
🎻 Prof Chan Tze Law (NUS Centre For the Arts, NUS Office of Student Affairs; Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music) envisioned an ASEAN Varsity Orchestra, harmonising student mobility and artistic collaboration among member universities
📋 On behalf of the Chairman of the AUN BOT, Ms Pennapa Kanchana (Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand) led the AUN BOT meeting, where various AUN thematic networks shared updates on their ongoing initiatives and plans for the year ahead. The programme closed with a visit to the Sustainable Singapore Gallery at Marina Barrage.
💙 Thank you to everyone who joined us in Singapore! Hope you all made it home safely, and see you next time!

Meet Niveditha from NUS Business School, National University of Singapore, who spent a semester at University of Sydney in Australia. 🇦🇺 🛫
For Niveditha, exchange was a chance to embrace the unfamiliar. Navigating a new city independently taught her adaptability and proactiveness as she sought help from friends, professors and her roommates. 🤝
That openness extended to the people she met too—connecting with peers from diverse backgrounds showed her that genuine connection transcends cultural barriers, from deep conversations about life and aspirations to lighter ones about movies and food. 💭 🗣️
Thank you, Niveditha, for sharing your semester abroad with us! ✨
🔍Growth starts outside your comfort zone!
