At 17, Xavier Tan launched his first streetwear brand. Today, the 28-year-old NP alumnus is a serial entrepreneur who has founded four companies, including a private members’ club he co-founded in London.

Early exposure to entrepreneurship through programmes such as Halogen's Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship and NP's Global Entrepreneurial Internship Programme (GEIP) helped Xavier see business-building as more than just an interest, laying the foundation for the ventures he would go on to create.

Now, he is using those experiences to inspire the next generation as a Halogen speaker and mentor.

Just across the border in Klang, Malaysia our students from the School of Business & Accountancy had a memorable experience during their recent Youth Expedition Project (YEP).

With their business expertise, our students took local youths from the El-Shaddai Learning Centre through a series of financial literacy, entrepreneurship and digital marketing workshops. They also visited their regenerative farm to help wash and pack vegetables.

As part of their learning journey, our students underwent a dialogue session with staff from the High Commission of Singapore in Kuala Lumpur to learn more about the role of the organisation. They also visited social enterprise, Life2Life Afghan Sewing Centre that offers employment to Afghan refugees, as well as innovative start up, Mustard Seed Capital, that actively reviews and invests in for-profit companies focusing on creating an impact on the community and environment.

Business and sustainability practices came alive for students from our Schools of Engineering and Life Sciences & Chemical Technology during their Overseas Immersion Programme to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam! ​

Beyond industry visits to Limart and Binh Minh Plastics, our students discovered the city’s rich history at landmarks such as Independence Palace and the Cu Chi Tunnels. The eye-opening experience showed that learning knows no borders.​

For over two decades, the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation has been opening doors for Ngee Ann Polytechnic students, offering scholarships and support.​
​
This support has given recipients the space to focus on what matters most: their studies, personal growth and the opportunities that have shaped their futures, instead of worrying about making ends meet.​
​
The impact extends well beyond their years at NP. Through volunteering opportunities with the Foundation's network of charitable organisations and community causes, recipients and alumni are encouraged to pay it forward and make a difference in the lives of others.​

A generous $14.4 million gift from The Ngee Ann Kongsi will help thousands of NP students focus on what matters most: Learning, growth and pursuing their aspirations.

Announced yesterday in the presence of Jasmin Lau 刘洁敏, Acting Minister for Manpower and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information, the donation reaffirms a longstanding partnership that has empowered generations of students through access to education and transformative learning opportunities.

The donation will support bursaries, scholarships and student aid grants, while also creating opportunities that deepen students' understanding of the world beyond Singapore and equip them with the skills and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing landscape.

For students like Rohini D/O Terence, financial assistance has eased her family's burden and enabled her to participate more fully in activities that have shaped her growth as a student leader. For Chin Chun Wai, an Overseas Immersion Programme in Thailand broadened his perspectives, strengthened his confidence and encouraged him to step outside his comfort zone.

As a token of appreciation, students from our Makers' Guild CCA presented a handcrafted artwork featuring a crane poised for flight before a waterfall. Created by students from different academic schools, the piece reflects NP's multidisciplinary spirit and the many talents that come together across our campus. It symbolises the aspirations, potential and growth of generations of learners whose lives have been transformed through education.

We are deeply grateful to The Ngee Ann Kongsi for its longstanding support and shared belief in the power of education to transform lives and open doors to new possibilities.

At NP, learning extends beyond the classroom. This September, our Overseas Immersion Programme took students to the heart of China – Shanghai and Wuhan. ​

The trip offered students a journey of discovery, innovation and cultural exchange. Students from the Schools of Health Sciences, InfoComm Technology, and Life Sciences & Chemical Technology visited Apollo and Lingang Hi-Tech Park and also took part in traditional dance and taiji classes.​

Our students delivered an outstanding performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, bringing home one Silver medal, one Bronze medal and two Medallions of Excellence.​

This September, students from our School of Humanities & Interdisciplinary Studies travelled to Baray, Cambodia, for their Youth Expedition Project (YEP)! ​
​
As part of their learning journey, the team visited the Embassy of Singapore in Phnom Penh, where they participated in a dialogue session with local staff. They also visited Villageworks, a social enterprise and Guaranteed Fair-Trade Member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), and learnt more about the business from their ops manager. The inclusive business employs people with disabilities to create products from recycled materials, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Its growing sales have also enabled its products to reach overseas markets.​
​
The students also left a memorable impact on the Cambodian community by supporting students at Tapaov Primary School. Beyond conducting basic English lessons, they helped refresh their classroom exterior, creating a better learning environment for the local students. ​

When a bus captain suffered a medical emergency while on duty last week, NP student Neo Ying Ying stepped in without hesitation.​

She helped coordinate assistance, called for an ambulance and stayed by his side until help arrived. Her calm response and quick thinking helped ensure the bus captain received timely medical attention and that passengers remained safe.​

We're proud of Ying Ying, an NP accountancy student for showing that compassion, presence of mind and a willingness to help others can make all the difference when it matters most.​

Today, human-centred design shapes how teams at Trinax work together, give feedback, engage clients and develop solutions. By equipping employees with a common toolkit and approach to innovation, HCDI helped Trinax strengthen collaboration across the organisation, contributing to a 30% increase in internal collaborative activities and a 20% rise in client engagement. ​
