π PSLE Oral Tip #3: Teach Your Child to Expand Their Answers
One of the biggest differences between average and stronger Oral responses is this:
π stronger students know HOW to continue speaking naturally.
Many students stop too quickly because they think:
β βI already answered the question.β
β βI donβt know what else to say.β
A simple trick:
After answering, ask your child to add ONE of these:
β
a reason
β
an example
β
a feeling
β
a lesson learnt
β
a personal experience
Example question:
βShould students help with household chores?β
Short answer:
βYes, because it is helpful.β
Expanded answer:
βYes, I think students should help with household chores because it teaches responsibility. For example, helping to wash dishes or tidy the room allows children to become more independent. Personally, I help my parents by folding clothes at home.β
Notice how the answer sounds:
β clearer
β more confident
β more developed
Good Oral answers are not about difficult vocabulary.
They are about expressing ideas clearly and naturally π

π PSLE Oral Tip #2: Stop Memorising βPerfectβ Answers
One common mistake students make during Oral is trying to memorise long model answers.
Unfortunately, examiners can usually tell π
When students memorise:
β answers sound unnatural
β they panic when the question changes
β they forget what to say halfway
Instead, focus on:
π ideas + structure
A simple method I teach students is:
Opinion β Reason β Example β Personal Experience
This helps students sound:
β
more confident
β
more natural
β
more fluent
Example question:
βDo you think teamwork is important?β
Instead of memorising a full paragraph, students only need to remember:
β their opinion
β one reason
β one example
β one personal experience
This makes speaking MUCH easier during the actual exam π
Over the next few weeks, Iβll continue sharing practical PSLE Oral strategies and common student mistakes.

π£Why Many PSLE Students Freeze During Oral π€
Most PSLE students are not weak in English.
They simply do not know HOW to think quickly during Oral.
Common problems I hear:
β βI donβt know what to say.β
β βMy answers are too short.β
β βI panic when the examiner asks unexpected questions.β
Hereβs one simple PSLE Oral tip parents can try today:
π Teach your child to answer using:
Opinion β Reason β Example β Personal Experience
Example question:
βShould children exercise regularly?β
Weak answer:
βYes because it is healthy.β
Stronger answer:
βYes, I think children should exercise regularly because it helps them stay healthy and active. For example, students who exercise often may feel more energetic in school. Personally, I enjoy playing badminton with my friends as it helps me relax after studying.β
Notice the difference?
The second answer sounds more natural, confident and developed π
Over the next few weeks, Iβll be sharing:
β
PSLE Oral answering techniques
β
Common examiner complaints
β
Vocabulary tips
β
Real examples of weak vs strong answers

β¨ From βI Hate Scienceβ to 76% in Just 2 Months β¨
Two months ago, my Secondary 1 student came to me with very weak Science foundation and zero interest in the subject.
Science felt confusing.
Science felt boring.
Science felt βtoo hardβ.
Fast forward 2 monthsβ¦
He just scored 76% for his Science weighted assessment 1 ππ
But more importantly?
He now attempts questions confidently.
He asks thoughtful questions.
He actually *tries* β even when the questions are challenging.
The transformation didnβt happen because he suddenly became βnaturally smartβ.
It happened because:
β
We rebuilt his foundation step-by-step
β
I simplified concepts into bite-sized understanding
β
We practised strategically (not blindly drilling)
β
He was guided patiently and consistently
When a student starts to understand, interest follows.
When interest grows, results improve.
If your child is currently:
β’ Very weak in lower secondary Science
β’ Lacking confidence
β’ Saying βI donβt like Scienceβ
β’ Or constantly failing assessments
Donβt wait until itβs too late. Secondary 1 is the best time to rebuild foundations before topics get heavier.
π© PM or WhatsApp me at +65 89203618 to find out how I can help your child improve their understanding and results in Science.
Limited slots available.
Letβs turn βI canβtβ into βI can.β πͺ

β¨ From βI Donβt Want to Write!β to βDaddy, See My Handwriting!β β¨
Three months ago, my Primary 2 girl came to class not liking writing at all.
Spelling?
She would rush through it.
Writing?
She would avoid it whenever possible.
Confidence level? Very low.
Fast forward 3 monthsβ¦
Something changed. β€οΈ
She now takes pride in her handwriting.
She puts in effort during spelling.
She reads more confidently.
She even wants to write.βοΈπ
The sweetest part?π
Her father told me recently that she is now proud of her handwriting and spelling, and he can see that her reading has improved too.
That is the kind of progress that truly matters.
Not just marks β
But confidence.
Ownership.
Joy in learning.
For lower primary students, building the right habits early is very important.
When writing becomes less scary and spelling becomes manageable, children naturally gain confidence in English.
If your child:
β’ Avoids writing
β’ Struggles with spelling
β’ Has messy handwriting
β’ Lacks confidence in reading
Letβs work on it early before the gap widens.

Two months ago, my Primary 4 student told me,
βI donβt like Mathsβ¦ itβs too hard.β π
Today? He finishes his homework and says,
βTeacher, can I try a few more questions on my own?β π€©
Thatβs the transformation that makes tutoring so meaningful.
When we first started, he had little interest in Maths and would avoid problem-solving whenever possible. He lacked confidence and often waited for answers instead of attempting them himself.
Over the past 2 months, we worked patiently on:
β¨ Building strong fundamentals
β¨ Breaking down complex word problems step by step
β¨ Encouraging independent thinking
β¨ Celebrating small wins to grow confidence
Now, he not only understands the concepts β he *enjoys* solving Maths problems. He challenges himself, thinks critically, and most importantly, believes he can do it.
Confidence changes everything.
When a child starts saying, βLet me try first,β thatβs when real learning happens.
If your child is struggling with Maths or has lost interest, donβt worry β sometimes they just need the right guidance, patience, and encouragement.
π© PM me at +6589203618 to find out how I can help your child build confidence and enjoy Maths again.
Letβs turn βI canβtβ into βI can!β πͺβ¨

β¨ **From Playful to Focused β and still smiling!** β¨
When she first came for tutoring, she was full of energy, giggles, and anything-but-work vibes ππ
Fast forward 2 months later⦠and wow!
π She now sits down, focuses, and *actually enjoys* completing her work.
π The playfulness is still there β but now it works with her learning, not against it.
π Confidence up. Effort up. Results coming through.
This is what consistent, patient, and encouraging tutoring can do π
Every child learns differently β they just need the right support.
π Looking for a tutor who builds focus, confidence, and good learning habits (without killing the fun)?
