On 4 September 2019 (Wednesday), our Red Cross cadets went on a learning journey to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to attend the Health And Life-skills Outreach (HALO) exhibition to learn about healthcare and pick up life-skills that can be applied to their daily lives and in emergencies.
The objective of this learning journey is to encourage our cadets to consider study healthcare or health sciences in polytechnic and university and also consider joining the healthcare industry for their future careers.
Our cadets interacted with the healthcare professionals to learn more about the work they do and the reasons for choosing the career. They also worked together in a team to plan their escape from the room as they explore a series of healthcare-related clues, riddles and props. Through the puzzles, the cadets developed team work and problem-solving skills. At the same time, they picked up healthcare fun facts and also learned about the roles of various healthcare professions. The cadets also watched first-aid demonstrations and learned life-saving skills such as bandaging and CPR. They also stepped into the shoes of a healthcare professional and through hands-on learning, they were able to experience how they could help patients in that profession.
